About the job

Keet is a fully peer-to-peer messaging and video calling app built on Holepunch's P2P stack. There are no servers, no middlemen, and no data harvesting. People talk directly to each other, with end-to-end encryption by design.

We are looking for a Senior Technical Product Manager to own the vision for Keet and lead it to a billion users, competing head-on with WhatsApp and Telegram. This is not a maintenance role. You will define where Keet goes, convince the board and the team that it is the right direction, and then drive the execution that gets it there.

You are a rare combination of three things. You are a product visionary who has shipped consumer chat or calling apps at scale. You are a technologist who can go deep on P2P architecture and the Pear / Holepunch stack (docs.pears.com). And you are a hands-on builder who uses AI tools to prototype and prove concepts in days, not months. You set the bar high, move at incredible speed, and lead from the front.

You will also be the person who catches what others miss. The PM who thrives here reads every ticket, tracks every dependency, asks the uncomfortable question before it becomes a launch incident, and keeps five workstreams moving simultaneously without losing the thread on any of them.

If you prefer a PM role where you set strategy and delegate execution, this is not the right fit. If you want to build something that ships to real users, moves markets, and carries your fingerprints from concept to production, we want to hear from you.

Responsibilities

Vision & Strategy

  • Own and articulate the long-term product vision for Keet as the world's leading private, peer-to-peer communication app, with a clear path to 1 billion users.

  • Analyze WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal, LINE, WeChat and emerging competitors to identify where P2P gives Keet an unfair advantage, and build the roadmap around it.

  • Present product vision, strategy, metrics and progress to the board and executive leadership with clarity and conviction.

Define a growth strategy across acquisition, activation, retention and virality, with measurable targets at every stage.

Technical Product Leadership

  • Develop a deep working understanding of the Holepunch P2P stack (Pear runtime, Bare, Hypercore, Hyperswarm, HyperDHT, Autobase, Hyperbee) and translate its capabilities and constraints into product decisions.

  • Partner with core engineering on hard P2P problems at scale, including NAT traversal, offline sync, multi-device support, large groups, push notifications, and battery and data efficiency on mobile.

  • Own the real-time calling experience (1:1 and group voice and video, plus screen sharing) to a quality bar that matches or beats Google Meet and Zoom.

  • Define clear feature tiers with explicit labels for stable versus experimental functionality.

Rapid Prototyping with AI

  • Use AI coding and design tools to build working prototypes and demos that prove concepts before committing engineering resources.

  • Turn ideas into something the team, users and the board can see and touch within days.

Execution & Team Leadership

  • Lead the product team and run the sprint cadence end to end, covering planning, prioritization, standups, reviews and retrospectives.

  • Own deliverables from conception through release, testing and post-launch iteration, ensuring core functionality works reliably every time.

  • Maintain issue trackers and roadmaps that accurately reflect priorities and sprint commitments.

  • Coordinate across engineering, QA, design, marketing and business stakeholders, and manage cross-team dependencies across the Holepunch and Tether ecosystem.

  • Provide transparent updates on status, risks and timeline changes, and hold direct conversations about accountability when needed.

Mobile & Distribution

  • Own the mobile release process across iOS and Android. This includes App Store and Google Play submissions, review guidelines, compliance, store listings, ratings and release management.

  • Oversee desktop distribution and installers across macOS, Windows and Linux.

  • Build crash reporting, debugging and analytics systems, privacy-preserving by design, that turn user reports into actionable engineering data.

Mandatory:

  • 8+ years of product management experience, including significant time in a senior or lead role owning a consumer product end to end.

  • Strong product sense, with a proven track record of setting product vision and driving it to measurable outcomes at scale (tens of millions of users or more).

  • Experience leading engineers who ship products, including running sprint cadences with predictable delivery across cross-functional teams.

  • Deep JavaScript and React skills. You can read and write production code, review pull requests, and build working prototypes yourself.

  • Intuition for distributed and local-first systems. You don't need P2P expertise, because our core abstracts it away, but you should be able to reason about sync, offline behavior and consistency trade-offs.

  • Hands-on experience shipping and scaling mobile apps on iOS and Android, with deep familiarity with App Store and Google Play logistics, review processes and release management.

  • Experience with real-time voice and video calling products (such as Google Meet, Zoom, FaceTime or WhatsApp calls) and the quality, latency and reliability trade-offs involved.

  • Demonstrated ability to use AI tools to rapidly prototype and demonstrate product concepts.

  • Exceptional communication skills, with experience presenting vision and strategy to boards, executives and investors.

  • A strong understanding of urgency versus importance, and the judgment to make fast, high-quality decisions with incomplete information.

  • You thrive in a high-intensity, fast-moving environment, set an exceptionally high bar, and are willing to go above and beyond, including extended hours, when the mission demands it.

  • Excellent written and spoken English.

Nice to have:

  • Product leadership experience at a major messaging app such as WhatsApp, Telegram, LINE, WeChat, Signal, Viber or KakaoTalk.

  • Experience with peer-to-peer technologies, distributed systems or decentralized protocols. Prior exposure to Holepunch, Pear or Hypercore is a strong plus.

  • Experience growing a product in emerging markets or across multiple regions and languages.

  • A background in privacy, encryption or security-focused products.

  • Familiarity with Electron, React Native or similar cross-platform frameworks, as well as installer systems, boot performance and Linux packaging (Snap, AppImage, Flatpak).

  • A solid understanding of testing approaches (unit, integration, end-to-end), test automation and performance testing.

  • An engineering background or computer science degree.

  • Experience with Git, issue trackers and modern collaboration tools.

Why this role:

The next billion-user communication app will not run on someone else's servers. If you want to be the person who defines it, presents it to the board, prototypes it yourself, and then leads the team that ships it, we want to hear from you.

In your application, include a link to a product you have shipped or a prototype you have built, along with a few sentences on how you would take Keet to 1 billion users.

And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
