Location: Remote (USA), New York Preferred
About MatiaMatia is at the forefront of the DataOps revolution, building a unified platform that streamlines data management from end-to-end. We empower data teams with seamless ingestion, reverse ETL, comprehensive observability, and intuitive data cataloging, enabling faster, smarter decisions with significantly less tool sprawl. Backed by leading investors and trusted by data teams at companies like Ramp, Outsystems, Drata and Recharge, we’re building the future of data confidence.
This role is our first product hire in the United States, working directly alongside our VP of Product in New York.
The OpportunityWe are seeking a Senior Technical Product Manager to join us as the first PM in the US (New York preferred). This is a deeply technical, highly hands-on role at the core of our platform. You will own product areas across the full Matia platform, spanning Ingestion, Reverse ETL, Observability, and Catalog, and you will be expected to go as deep as the problem requires, whether that means understanding how Postgres and MySQL replication behaves under load, how CDC handles schema changes, or why a sync is slow. Technical depth is not a specialty here. It is how the role operates.
Reporting directly to the VP of Product in New York, you will sit close to our customers, who are primarily in the US, and act as their voice in the product. Our engineering team is based in Israel, so you will need to be exceptionally effective at building remote relationships with engineers: crisp written specs, sharp async communication, and the technical credibility to debate tradeoffs on their terms. You will help establish Matia's product culture in the US and shape how we build for years to come.
What You’ll DoOwn Product Areas Across the Platform: Take end-to-end ownership of product areas spanning Ingestion, Reverse ETL, Observability, and Catalog, translating complex technical and data challenges into clear priorities, crisp specifications, and measurable outcomes.
Go Deep on Data Infrastructure: Immerse yourself in the nooks and crannies of database replication and pipelines, including Postgres WAL and logical decoding, MySQL binlog, CDC edge cases, sync performance, and schema evolution, and turn that depth into better product decisions.
Be the Voice of US Customers: Speak regularly with customers to uncover pain points, validate product direction, and ensure what we build resonates with real-world data teams. Represent customer needs in every roadmap conversation.
Partner with Engineering Across an Ocean: Build strong remote working relationships with our Israel-based engineering team. Write specs that stand on their own, communicate asynchronously with precision, and engage deeply on technical tradeoffs.
Iterate and Prioritize Ruthlessly: Continuously refine the roadmap based on data, user feedback, and results. Focus engineering effort on the highest-impact work, making tough tradeoffs and cutting scope when needed to ship faster and learn sooner.
Know the Competitive Landscape: Develop a sharp point of view on the data integration and observability market, and use it to inform positioning, prioritization, and where Matia can win.
Shape Product Culture: Work with the VP of Product to establish Matia's product rituals and standards, from specs and prioritization frameworks to how we define success and learn from customers.
We're looking for a hungry, deeply technical Senior Product Manager who thrives in fast-moving, ambiguous environments and wants to be close to both the customer and the metal. We value entrepreneurial spirit and genuine technical depth, and we care far more about what you can do than where you've been.
Must-Haves:
Experience: 5+ years as a Product Manager, with at least 2 years on data-intensive or infrastructure products (data pipelines, databases, observability, data catalogs, developer tools).
Database Depth: Genuine working knowledge of relational database internals, especially Postgres and MySQL: replication mechanisms, change data capture, transaction logs, schema evolution, and performance characteristics. You can hold your own in a design discussion about a CDC pipeline.
Technical Fluency: Strong SQL, comfort reasoning about data structures and data quality (freshness, completeness, lineage), and the ability to engage deeply with engineers on tradeoffs.
Execution Track Record: Demonstrated success shipping technical products end-to-end, from discovery through delivery with clear metrics moved.
Customer Fluency: Comfortable and credible in front of technical customers, from data engineers to heads of data, and able to translate their problems into product direction.
Remote Collaboration: A track record of working effectively with distributed engineering teams. Writing-first, proactive, and able to keep momentum across time zones.
Startup DNA: Hungry. Thrives in hectic, noisy, resource-constrained environments. Able to work with ambiguity, act autonomously, and keep engineers focused on outcomes.
AI Productivity: Skilled at using modern AI tools (e.g., for research, drafting specs, analyzing data) to accelerate product workflows and increase day-to-day velocity.
Nice-to-Haves:
Experience at a data integration, data movement, or data observability company.
A prior background as a software engineer, data engineer, or DBA.
Experience as the first or early PM at a startup.
