The Senior Underwriting Analyst will assess creditworthiness, analyze financial data, and make sound underwriting decisions to support the growth of our clients while mitigating risk. This role requires expertise in commercial financing, a deep understanding of financial statements, and strong interpersonal skills to collaborate across teams.

This position operates on a hybrid model, with a requirement of two days in office each week.

In this role you will:
  • Learn and follow Forward Financing’s process and guidelines to confidently issue profitable underwriting decisions.

  • Analyze and interpret small business data related to financing applications to determine the appropriate amount of capital that the business can afford.

  • Gauge risk profile while understanding customers’ business needs, opportunities and challenges.

  • Advise internal sales reps to offer appealing small business financing options.

  • Work with other members of the Underwriting department on initiatives to improve processes.

  • Evaluate small business financing applications by analyzing financial statements, credit reports, cash flow projections, and other relevant documentation to assess creditworthiness and risk.

  • Use trend and ratio analysis to interpret financial information and determine credit quality and cash flow adequacy.

  • Provide guidance and training to junior underwriters and team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree.

  • 5+ years of experience in small business underwriting, commercial financing, or a related field.

  • Strong knowledge of financial statement analysis, credit risk assessment, and lending practices.

  • Capability to identify patterns in data and make informed decisions accordingly.

  • Analytical and self-motivated professional with a track record of exercising good judgment when making business decisions.

  • Proficient in reviewing data and making decisions in situations that contain some level of ambiguity.
