Site Safety Intern

Job Overview:

Primoris Renewable Energy is currently seeking a Site Safety Intern to join our team. This position will be a site-based role that supports the implementation and administration of project health, safety, environmental, and quality (QHSE) programs under the supervision of the Site Safety Manager and project leadership team. The Site Safety Intern will assist with daily safety activities, inspections, training initiatives, compliance monitoring, and documentation while gaining hands-on experience in renewable energy construction projects.

The Site Safety Intern will help promote a strong safety culture by supporting personnel safety, regulatory compliance, hazard identification, incident prevention, and continuous improvement initiatives. This position provides an excellent opportunity for individuals pursuing a career in occupational safety, environmental health, construction management, or a related field to gain practical field experience in a fast-paced construction environment.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

• Assist the Site Safety Manager with implementation and administration of project-specific safety programs, policies, and procedures.
• Participate in daily site walks, inspections, and audits to identify unsafe conditions, unsafe behaviors, and potential hazards.
• Observe field operations and provide feedback regarding safe work practices, hazard controls, and risk mitigation measures.
• Assist with documentation and tracking of safety observations, inspections, corrective actions, training records, and compliance activities.
• Support incident, injury, near-miss, and property damage investigations by gathering information, interviewing involved personnel, and documenting findings.
• Assist in maintaining site safety files, reports, logs, permits, and other required project documentation.
• Participate in Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) reviews and pre-task planning activities with field personnel and subcontractors.
• Monitor the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and support corrective action efforts when deficiencies are identified.
• Assist in tracking and maintaining safety metrics, leading indicators, and project-specific safety performance data.
• Support emergency preparedness initiatives, including emergency response planning, drills, and equipment inspections.
• Promote a positive safety culture through employee engagement, coaching, and professional safety communications.
• Participate in project safety meetings and assist with preparation of meeting minutes and related documentation.
• Maintain effective working relationships with craft personnel, subcontractors, project management, and client representatives.
• Ensure all activities are performed in accordance with Primoris Renewable Energy safety standards and project requirements.
• Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned to support project safety and operational objectives.

Basic Qualifications:

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), Construction Management, Engineering, Industrial Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Ability to work effectively in both office and field environments.
• Willingness to learn and actively participate in field safety activities.
• Site Safety Interns are expected to relocate to the project site for the duration of the internship assignment.
• Coursework related to occupational safety, environmental compliance, industrial hygiene, risk management, or construction management.

Physical Requirements:

• Must comply with client safety requirements (e.g., clean-shaven, long sleeves, steel-toe boots).
• Must pass a physical exam if required.
• Able to:
  • Climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding, and stairways.
  • Stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and work at heights or in confined spaces (e.g., towers, vessels, excavations).
  • Lift and carry up to 50 lbs. (Use assistance for heavier loads).
  • Stand or walk for extended periods on uneven surfaces (dirt, concrete, asphalt, mud, gravel).
• Must be able to wear a respirator and other PPE when required.
