Job Summary
Under technical direction, the Small Business Strategy Consultant will contribute to solutions to drive profit and growth for Small Business Strategy through detailed strategy analytics for select industries and lines of business. The Strategy Consultant will use and apply knowledge of how each area of Small Business (this includes Underwriting, Sales, Operations, Territory Management and Strategic Leadership) and enterprise Segment and Line of Business Strategies contribute to the overall success of each strategic initiative.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines:
Acquires data, compiles and analyzes internal/external business metrics and trends, and synthesizes findings upon which management will make recommendations which includes analysis of quote/policy/claim data and trends; financial performance; underwriting efficiency; and distribution effectiveness to improve growth and profitability.
Assesses our competitive position relative to the market including share and penetration, product and pricing comparisons, and perception in the marketplace.
Develop a deep understanding of our rating algorithms and our products and coverages and how they compare to our competition. With guidance, looks for market driven solutions to our current product and coverage offering including rates, limits, sub-limits, exclusions, endorsements, etc. that will drive Small Business profitability.
Supports larger efforts that will require formal project and/or program management support.
Under direction, creates plans that capture key actions required to execute on the strategy, establishes business outcomes and action plans with clear owners and cross-functional accountabilities.
Maintains performance monitoring solutions to track portfolio execution in target areas, assess performance, and enable adjustments to strategy.
Creates and maintains key business documents and materials. Provides project planning and meeting support (plan development, scheduling, logistics and production). Captures and distributes meeting outputs, including action items/owners/next steps, and manages post-meeting communications.
May perform additional duties as assigned.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
1. Critical thinking, analytical and problem solving skills.
2. Ability to develop insights and draw conclusions beyond what is readily apparent.
3. Ability to participate in teams in a matrixed, cross-functional environment with the ability to create and manage work plans across multiple work streams, owners and teams.
4. Ability to identify barriers to execution and drive outcomes.
5. Strong communication and presentation skills.
6. Ability to facilitate group meetings.
7. Ability to draft logical, executive-level summaries from relevant quantitative and qualitative information, connecting conclusions to business outcomes.
9. Strong computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, Excel, Allteryx, Power BI, Tableau (desired knowledge of Visual Basic, R, SQL and machine learning techniques).
10. Basic underwriting knowledge is desired (i.e. CPCU coursework).
Education & Experience
1. Bachelor's degree, in a related discipline, or equivalent.
2. Typically a minimum of three to five years of related work experience.
