As a Software Engineer, you will contribute to ComfyUI by designing and implementing clean software abstractions, APIs, and SDKs while collaborating with product design and frontend engineers to enhance user-facing features.

The Role

You will be a core contributor to open source ComfyUI, one of the most popular open source projects of our time.

Your mission is to create a world-class creative tool and workflow engine. You will architect, and implement the foundations that power our engineering organization — clean software abstractions, extensible RESTFUL APIs and Python SDK, and clean code. Decisions here have long-lasting implications, and can result in massive headwinds or tailwinds for the project, thus requiring exceptional attention to detail and thoughtful design.

Example projects include…

  • Writing shared abstractions that are extensible for future changes, such as the concept of subgraphs (within a graph)

  • Designing data models that can be evolved in an open source environment

  • Introducing a new core type, such as VIDEO or 3D

  • Partnering with product design and frontend engineers to ship user facing features that also need to work in headless environments (many users run ComfyUI as an API service).

You might be a fit if…

  • Experience writing Python and maintaining APIs and SDKs used at scale

  • Regularly write and review code, maintaining a high bar for each

  • Care deeply about elegant software design and writing clean code

  • Bonus: Familiar with ComfyUI or other node based workflow tools

  • Bonus: Strong understanding of tensors, pytorch, and can contribute to implementing new models for ComfyUI

About Comfy

Comfy (https://www.comfy.org) is the AI creation engine for visual professionals who demand control over every model, every parameter, and every output. The most powerful workflow engine for visual AI.

Unlike tools that hide everything behind a prompt box, Comfy lets you connect models, processing steps, and outputs on a canvas where every decision is visible and every step is inspectable. It gives you the building blocks to create workflows nobody's imagined yet, and share them with everyone.

What started as an open-source project in 2023 now has 4 million users, 60,000+ community-built nodes, and 150,000+ daily downloads. It's used by artists, filmmakers, game studios, designers, researchers, and VFX houses, including teams at OpenAI, Netflix, Amazon Studios, Ubisoft, EA, and Tencent.

We're a small, intense team in San Francisco. Our team comes from Stability AI and Google, and many contributed to the ComfyUI ecosystem long before working here. Low ego, high ownership. We work hard and demand a lot of each other, but we have fun. Everyone here is building something meaningful that will end up being our life's work.

If this mission excites you and you view yourself as top-tier talent, your future latent self is waiting for you at Comfy.

Check out our Github (https://github.com/comfyanonymous/ComfyUI) and blog (https://blog.comfy.org). We recently raised $30M at a $500M valuation. The round was led by Craft, with participation from Pace Capital, Chemistry, TruArrow, and others.

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
