The Software Engineer II will develop and maintain APIs in PHP/Laravel, enhance UI features, troubleshoot issues, and collaborate on technical solutions.
The Opportunity
Ziff Davis Shopping is looking for an experienced Software Engineer II (Laravel/PHP) to join our engineering team and help drive our marketing technology stack forward. You’ll play a critical role in maintaining code and building out new features for RetailMeNot and VoucherCodes, with a primary focus on helping develop the solutions that power our next-generation marketing communications.
The right person will be a proactive developer with a good understanding of PHP, and know how to balance development speed with code quality. You should be passionate about building efficient solutions and be capable of delivering clean, tested code that supports our business goals.
Key responsibilities
- Developing and maintaining RESTful APIs and services, primarily in PHP/Laravel with guidance
- Collaborating with the engineering team to implement technical solutions based on business requirements
- Creating and maintaining responsive email templates (HTML/CSS) for marketing campaigns
- Supporting integrations with MarTech platforms like Braze to facilitate data flow and event triggering
- Building and updating UI features for internal tools and job monitoring dashboards
- Troubleshooting application issues and assisting with root cause analysis to resolve bugs
- Writing clean, testable code and participating in peer code reviews to ensure quality
Job requirements
- 3+ years of commercial development experience with proficiency in PHP (Laravel)
- Understanding of AWS environments and cloud infrastructure concepts
- Exposure to stream processing concepts or message brokers like Kafka
- Strong knowledge of MySQL and an understanding of data processing workflows
- Ability to work within and incrementally improve existing codebases
- Some experience with modern frontend tooling such as TypeScript, React or Vue
- Knowledge of HTML/CSS specific to email design or willingness to learn templating engines (e.g., Blade, Liquid)
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with the team

Compensation Range
Ziff Davis provides a range for the base pay. Factors that may be used to determine your actual pay may include your specific job related knowledge, skills, experience, and geographic location. The salary compensation for this role is $90k - $100k. Individual pay within the compensation range for this business unit specific role is determined based on a variety of factors including experience, scope of the role, capabilities to perform the role, education and training, as well as business and company performance.
