Lead development of AI-powered mobile applications on iOS and Android, focusing on real-time audio capture, processing, and user experience improvements.

The Role:

The Mobile Team’s mission is to capture and process high-value audio data that powers Read AI’s downstream applications - delivering smarter, real-time insights across a wide range of use cases. We thrive on creativity, collaboration, and technical innovation, building mobile experiences that serve thousands of users every day. We value versatility, strong product instincts, and engineers who love solving complex problems across varied stacks and methodologies.
Our iOS and Android apps let users instantly capture audio and receive AI-generated transcripts and summaries in real time, helping them stay present and engaged during conversations. As we expand when and where users interact with Read AI, we’re building a seamless cross-device experience so users can record, watch, and access Read AI anywhere.
We’re looking for a skilled iOS/Android Software Engineer to lead development of our mobile apps and help shape the future of Read AI. This role will be pivotal in scaling high-performance, AI-powered experiences to a broader audience. If you’re excited about building fast, reliable mobile products and delivering real-world impact through AI, we’d love to hear from you.

Responsibilities:

  • Help lead the development of new features and product improvements across iOS (Swift, SwiftUI) and Android (Kotlin, Jetpack Compose).

  • Build and enhance real-time audio capture and processing across platforms - leveraging AVFoundation on iOS and Android audio frameworks to ensure high-quality recordings and accurate transcription.

  • Optimize performance, reliability, and latency to deliver smooth, real-time AI-powered transcription and summarization.

  • Design and implement new AI-powered mobile interactions, including chat-based experiences that let users explore, query, and take action on their meeting reports and insights.

  • Partner with product, design, and ML teams to prototype and ship novel mobile UX patterns for conversational AI - making complex information feel intuitive, fast, and useful.

  • Implement best practices for security, privacy, data handling, and offline support, ensuring user trust across both platforms.

Requirements:

  • 3-5 years of experience as a software engineer or mobile application developer.

  • Demonstrated experience building production mobile apps on iOS (Swift, SwiftUI) and/or Android (Kotlin, Jetpack Compose); comfort working across both platforms is a plus.

  • Solid understanding of mobile architecture patterns, state management, and building maintainable UI at scale.

  • Experience with real-time audio capture and processing, using AVFoundation (iOS) and/or Android audio APIs.

  • Familiarity with background execution, offline storage, and syncing data reliably across devices and network conditions.

  • Experience integrating mobile apps with RESTful APIs, WebSockets, and event-driven backends.

  • Excited about building AI-powered user experiences, including conversational or chat-based interactions that help users explore and act on information.

  • Strong product instincts and a passion for improving real-world workflows through thoughtful mobile UX.

Nice to have:

  • Prior experience with real-time audio processing or speech-to-text applications is a bonus.

  • Backend development experience in Python, FastAPI, or Node.js

  • Familiarity with PostgreSQL, Redis, and Celery for handling real-time data and background jobs.

  • Experience working with AWS, GCP, or Azure for cloud-based infrastructure and services.

  • Prior experience in a startup or fast-growing environment.

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
