About Aalyria:

Aalyria is a leading technology company that supplies laser communications technology and temporospatial software-defined networking platforms to the aerospace industry. With technology acquired from Google, Aalyria is at the forefront of innovation in satellite and airborne mesh networks, as well as cislunar and deep-space communications. We are revolutionizing the orchestration and management of planetary mesh networks using any radio or optical spectrum, any orbit, and any hardware across land, sea, air, and space.

Role Overview:

As a Software Engineer on the Security Platform team, you'll build the identity, credentials, and audit capabilities that secure Spacetime. The team owns security for Aalyria products, and we build each capability once so it works the same in every environment Spacetime ships into. A system built this way produces its own compliance evidence. You'll work with senior engineers on the team and with product engineers across Aalyria.

Spacetime runs in commercial cloud, government cloud, and classified or disconnected environments, and that last category shapes the work. Trust decisions must be verifiable offline, at sites we cannot reach, with no upstream to call. Most identity platforms assume a connected world. Ours cannot. Our security platform is evolving, with capabilities that grew up alongside Spacetime being consolidated into one coherent layer with identity at its center, and the engineers we hire now will help build it. The people who thrive here are curious about how security systems fail, care about getting the details right, and take ownership of what they ship.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Build authentication and authorization capabilities for Spacetime, including token validation, trust anchors, and the permission model operators configure
  • Implement authorization that holds up under delegation, multi tenancy, and machine to machine access
  • Build and maintain PKI components: certificate issuance, rotation, and revocation
  • Build workload identity and the libraries services use to present it
  • Build and maintain the auth SDKs that Aalyria engineering teams and customers use to reach Spacetime APIs
  • Build the access controls for secrets and keys, and the client libraries teams use to reach them
  • Implement audit and structured logging that makes authorization decisions reconstructable after the fact, including in regulated, classified, and disconnected environments
  • Contribute to threat models and build mitigations that fix root causes rather than single findings
  • Run what you build in production: availability, upgrades, security maintenance, on call, and incident response
  • Work with product, infrastructure, and developer platform engineers to turn their requirements into capabilities they adopt on their own, and apply the platform's security standards for hardened images, supply chain, and pipeline gates
Required Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of backend software engineering on production services
  • Experience in Go, or backend experience in a comparable language and readiness to work in Go daily
  • Hands on experience contributing to at least one of: an authentication or authorization system inside a product, an identity provider integration, a certificate authority, or a secrets or key management service
  • Understanding of how token based authentication fails, including audience confusion, unverified issuers, key confusion, and redirect handling at token endpoints, and how to prevent those failures
  • Working knowledge of Kubernetes and cloud infrastructure
  • Comfort owning a component in production, including on call rotations and incident response
  • Clear written and verbal communication, including explaining security tradeoffs to other engineers
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience building for regulated, disconnected, or high assurance environments
  • Experience integrating or operating an OIDC provider such as Zitadel, Keycloak, Okta, Auth0, or comparable
  • Experience with authorization models such as policy engines, RBAC, or ReBAC
  • Experience with SPIFFE/SPIRE, Vault, cloud KMS, or HSM backed key management
  • Experience with audit logging or evidence generation for FedRAMP, DoD Impact Levels, or a comparable regime
  • Experience threat modeling the services you build
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
What We Offer:
  • Innovative Environment: Work at a cutting-edge company shaping the future of aerospace communications.
  • Impactful Work: Directly contribute to critical national security programs and initiatives.
  • Growth Opportunities: Expand your career with opportunities for professional development and advancement.
  • Inclusive Culture: Be part of a collaborative, supportive, and inclusive workplace where your contributions matter.
  • Flexibility: Flexible working arrangements including hybrid remote/in-office schedules.
  • Compensation and Equity: Competitive salary, comprehensive benefits (401(k), dental, vision, health, life insurance), paid time off, and equity options.
ITAR/EAR Requirements:

This position involves access to export-controlled information. To comply with U.S. government export regulations, applicants must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Asylee under 8 U.S.C. 1158

(B) Be eligible to access export-controlled information without requiring an export authorization.

(C) Be eligible and reasonably likely to obtain the necessary export authorization from the appropriate U.S. government agency.

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
