About Aurelian

Aurelian automates non-emergency calls for 9-1-1 centers. We do this through an AI-powered operator that routes, triages, and resolves calls without the need for human intervention. By doing this, we let 9-1-1 dispatchers focus their time and energy where it’s needed most: actual emergencies.

Nationwide, the average emergency communications center (ECC) is 30% understaffed. Staffing shortages have lead to call-taker burnout and attrition, which is exacerbating the problem even more. Post COVID, wait times for 9-1-1 calls have reached a boiling point; imagine, in the most stressful situation of your life, waiting on hold for over a minute.

But what’s most shocking is 60-80% of the calls 9-1-1 operators take aren’t even emergencies. They’re administrative calls that have been punted to ECCs: noise complaints, lost dogs, paying parking tickets, etc. Our conversational AI answers these administrative calls, reducing hold times, and freeing up human operators to deal with emergent situations.

Aurelian is currently live in centers across the country, and answers thousands of non-emergency calls every day. We are hiring people to help us continue to scale and make real positive impact on public safety infrastructure in the US.

Why Join Us:

As a Software Engineer at Aurelian, you will be part of a team building state of the art, multi modal conversational AI systems that help save lives. You’ll own and relentlessly improve core features of our platform, and get to work closely with our customers to develop novel solutions to the unique problems that 9-1-1 call centers face.

What You’ll Be Doing:
  • Serve as a critical bridge between Aurelian's platform and our customers' legacy systems, ensuring strong and reliable integrations

  • Dive deeply into technical challenges and go beyond traditional expectations to ensure our solutions deliver exceptional value

  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams and customer stakeholders, becoming a trusted partner in the field

  • Troubleshoot, resolve, and proactively identify issues in demanding, real-world environments

Who We’re Looking For:
  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science (open to fresh graduates)

  • Experience with Python - knowledge of async patterns is a plus

  • Experience with React and TypeScript

  • Highly motivated and relentless in pursuing solutions, even when faced with complex or ambiguous problems

  • Eager to go the extra mile to ensure customer success and real-world impact

  • Comfortable with both technical challenges and hands-on, on-site problem-solving

  • Strong communicator who thrives in fast-paced and evolving environments

Please Note: At this time, we are only open to considering candidates who have already graduated.

If you’re eager to make technology that matters and want to shape the future of emergency communications, we’d love to hear from you!

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
