This role is a hybrid position

Some roles require an office while others may be done remotely. This position is considered hybrid, allowing for a combination of remote work and in-office collaboration. Qualified applicants must live within commuting distance of our Boston or Seattle office locations and work in the office 2-3 days per week.

As a Software Engineering Manager on the Player Control team, you will be part of a cross-functional group focused on enabling users to control their Sonos system through various methods. Your responsibilities will include managing the team of software engineers who design, develop, and improve the embedded software that governs speaker behavior across the Sonos multi-room ecosystem and future products.

In our dynamic environment, you will work closely with software engineers, user experience designers, and product managers to create and implement innovative features that enhance customer satisfaction. Our team is dedicated to new product development and the ongoing evolution of our core embedded and mobile software. What You’ll Do:

  • Mentor, and support software engineering organizations to cultivate a collaborative and productive work environment.

  • Establish clear performance expectations and goals, providing regular feedback to team members.

  • Manage project timelines and budgets to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery.

  • Drive continuous improvement in software quality, performance, code optimization, maintainability, and system reliability.

  • Review, design, build, analyze, enhance, and unit test the embedded software system responsible for speaker behavior throughout the Sonos multi-room system and future products.

  • Collaborate with software engineers, product managers, QA, and UX teams to design and deliver unique, innovative features that delight our customers.

  • Create design documents detailing new and existing functionality.

  • Drive your work forward and apply your strong technical abilities to influence positive change and innovation.

  • Drive the team processes, utilizing Agile methodologies for adaptation and continuous improvement.

What You’ll Need:

Basic Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of engineering management experience.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to explain technical information to diverse audiences.

  • Ability to review code and design and participate in system architecture discussions.

  • Experienced C++ developer with object-oriented design expertise.

  • Proven track record of delivering reliable, extensible, and maintainable software.

  • Proven experience with development on a Linux platform.

  • Proficiency in multi-threaded programming.

  • Experience in writing and implementing APIs.

  • Degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Bluetooth or BLE technologies.

  • Experience with cross-platform mobile application development.

  • Familiarity with Cloud, RESTful API, and HTTP technologies is a plus.

  • Proven experience in recruiting, hiring, and mentoring with a focus on skill development and enhancing team effectiveness to deliver high-quality software.

The base pay range for this role based off geographic location is:

$160,000 and $200,000

The specific pay offered will depend on the candidate’s geographic location, as well as qualifications and experience. We apply geographic pay differentials based on the cost of labor in the market.  Employees in high-cost locations may be compensated at the upper end of the range, while those in medium or low cost markets may be compensated at the lower end of  the range. Your recruiter can provide more details about the specific salary range for your location during the hiring process.
