What's the role?
As the Solutions Engineer on our Checkout Pod, you will combine hands-on engineering with direct customer impact. You'll be the technical face of Bilt Dining for our restaurant partners, ensuring their systems integrate seamlessly with ours while contributing directly to backend development and platform scalability.
This role will require you to travel.
In this role, you will...
  • Be the technical point person for restaurant onboarding onto the Bilt Guest Experience Platform - guiding partners through POS integration (Toast, Aloha, Micros, Lightspeed, etc.) and hardware setup using Linux Devices.
  • Work directly with restaurant operators, POS providers, and internal teams to ensure smooth launches and resolve technical issues - you'll be the bridge between customers and our engineering stack.
  • Design, build, and maintain backend services and integrations that connect restaurant systems, payment processors, and the Bilt platform.
  • Write clean, production-grade code in Python, Java, or Go to automate onboarding workflows, sync POS data, and improve transaction reliability.
  • Debug real-world integration challenges across hardware, APIs, and cloud infrastructure - diagnosing printer connectivity, webhook failures, or payment mismatches.
  • Collaborate closely with product, operations, and partnerships to refine the onboarding experience and create scalable technical processes for future restaurants.
  • Develop internal tools and monitoring systems that make it easier to deploy and maintain hundreds of restaurants at scale.
  • Represent engineering in customer interactions, helping translate business needs into technical solutions and building strong trust with our partners.
  • Contribute to core backend projects, helping expand Bilt's dining payment and POS integration capabilities.

In terms of qualifications, we're seeking:
  • 2 - 3 years of software engineering experience, ideally in backend or integration-focused roles.
  • Open to traveling 50% of the time.
  • Proven ability to interface with customers or partners in a technical capacity - you can explain complex systems clearly and empathetically.
  • Strong coding skills in Java, or Go, with a focus on APIs, integrations, and automation.
  • Experience with POS systems (Toast, Micros, Aloha, Lightspeed, or similar) - whether through API integrations, data connections, or on-prem setup.
  • Comfort with Linux systems, networking, and remote hardware configuration (e.g., Raspberry Pis or other edge devices).
  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (GCP, AWS, or Azure), CI/CD pipelines, and monitoring tools.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills - you can translate between customer needs and engineering realities.
  • A flexible, problem-solving mindset suited for a fast-moving startup environment.

Benefits:
  • Compensation - We offer a competitive salary with a meaningful stake in the company via equity and our performance bonus program
  • Health insurance for you (& your loved ones) from day one - Enjoy a One Medical Membership, wellness stipends, family programs and more, on us. We've got you and your family covered from day one.
  • 401k plan with a match - Retirement may feel more like a pipe dream than a reality but we're here to help you get there.
  • Commuter FSAs - We believe the best ideas come from being together in one place. We just don't think getting there should be so expensive.
  • UNLIMITED PTO - Because we believe that working hard shouldn't mean always working. Take time for you as often as you need it.
  • Exclusive Employee only Bilt Points - We give our employees unique opportunities to earn points throughout their time at Bilt.

At Bilt Rewards, we believe in transparency and we do our best to make sure the company and our candidates are on the same page as it relates to compensation. In addition to posting salary ranges for our open roles, candidates should expect to be asked about compensation expectations and requirements early on in their interview process. Our goal is to highlight when expectations and Bilt's salary range may be out of sync, and work with the candidate to determine whether it makes sense to continue conversations.
We are considering candidates with differing levels of expertise for this position. Leveling will be based upon your experience and performance in the interview process.
Where a new hire falls within a range will be based on their individual skills and experience, and how these competencies compare across other employees in the same role. Bilt's bands are designed to allow for individual compensation growth within the role. As such, new hires typically start at the lower end of the range. Bilt rewards performance and outcomes - should you join the company, you will have the opportunity to grow your salary over time.
The salary range for a Solutions Engineer is $120,000 - 155,000 and will be eligible for equity and an annual performance-based bonus.

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
