About the Role:

As a Senior Controls Engineer, you will lead and execute multiple controls projects across their full lifecycle — from concept and component selection through programming, commissioning, and customer handoff. You’ll play a key role in delivering reliable, scalable, and innovative automation systems for high-profile material handling customers. You’ll also help shape the future of DCS’s controls standards, products, and team capabilities.  Sound like you? Read on.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead controls design and implementation activities for material handling systems
  • Electrical Design, field device placement, control panel layouts and generate electrical schematics using AutoCAD Electrical or EPLAN
  • Select components, design networks, develop BOMs, and validate equipment
  • Program PLCs and develop SCADA/HMI solutions
  • Commission and debug systems on-site; support testing and validation
  • Conduct field troubleshooting and provide technical support during installation
  • Ensure projects are delivered on-time, within scope, and to customer satisfaction
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of controls standards and reusable code libraries
  • Lead or support R&D initiatives and internal projects to enhance controls capabilities
  • Collaborate with key vendors to evaluate and implement emerging technologies
  • Identify opportunities to value engineer designs without compromising performance
  • Serve as a senior member on multi-disciplinary project teams (PMs, Mechanical, Field, etc.)
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to knowledge-sharing across the Controls team
  • Participate in Controls team initiatives, process development, and tool creation
  • Support recruiting efforts and provide feedback on technology/software vendors
  • Maintain open, timely communication with project teams and leadership
  • Represent DCS with professionalism during site visits, customer meetings, and supplier interactions
  • Contribute to a positive, team-oriented culture that emphasizes growth and accountability
  • Attend weekly controls meetings and internal training sessions

We’re Excited About You Because:

  • You have 10+ years of relevant experience (or 14+ years without a degree), ideally in the material handling industry
  • You have advanced PLC and HMI/SCADA programming skills
  • Your knowledge of network communication architectures and protocols
  • You’re confident designing control panels and selecting components
  • You’re mechanically inclined and comfortable in both design and field environments
  • You’re resourceful, independent, and love solving hard problems
  • You are proactive, collaborative, and passionate about continual improvement
  • You’re flexible and can manage multiple fast-paced projects at once
  • You’re an excellent communicator — written and verbal
  • You’re willing and able to travel up to 50% as needed
