The Impact of a Sr. DIrector, IT Portfolio at Coupa:
The Sr. Director, IT Portfolio Manager acts as the primary point of contact and strategic advisor between IT and specific business units. This role is responsible for managing the "demand" side of the IT relationship—understanding business strategy, shaping technology roadmaps, and overseeing the intake and prioritization of the project portfolio to ensure IT investments deliver maximum business value. This position will focus in the business areas of Post-Sales, including Customer Support, Customer Success and Professional Services.
The primary goal of this Portfolio Lead is to ensure that all IT initiatives are aligned with the overall business strategy and that IT resources are used efficiently to maximize value, manage risk, and achieve organizational objectives.
IT Portfolio Management is a strategic approach to systematically manage and optimize a collection of Information Technology (IT) investments, projects, assets, and services, ensuring the best return on investment.
What You'll Do:
- Partner with Business Leadership to Deliver on their Technology Solutions
- Business Alignment: Serve as the "face of IT" for assigned portfolios, building deep relationships with department heads to understand their goals and pain points.
- Strategic Advocacy: Represent the business's needs within the IT organization and, conversely, communicate IT’s capabilities and constraints back to the business.
- Value Realization: Partner with stakeholders to define and track the ROI and business outcomes of technology investments.
- Own Portfolio & Intake Governance
- Demand Management: Lead the Intake Process using the established Jira framework to capture, vet, and prioritize new project requests.
- Investment Roadmap: Maintain a multi-year technology roadmap for assigned business units, ensuring alignment with corporate strategy and budget cycles.
- Prioritization: Facilitate steering committee meetings to balance competing priorities based on capacity, risk, and strategic impact.
- Orchestrate IT Delivery
- Solution Scoping: Collaborate with technical teams and business leads to define high-level requirements and evaluate innovative, scalable and high ROI projects.
- Cross-Functional Coordination: Manage dependencies across different IT pillars (BusApps, IInfrastructure, Security, Data) and external departments (e.g., Post-Sales) to ensure project success.
- Ensure clear communication: Manage stakeholder expectations throughout the entire project lifecycle. Working closely with Change Management to set teams up for success and adoption.
- Escalation Management: Act as a high-level escalation point for service delivery issues, ensuring the business feels supported and heard.
- Focus on AI:Champion a holistic company-wide AI strategy and roadmap, ensuring deep alignment with overall business objectives and corporate goals. Collaborate with business leaders to build strategic roadmaps that prioritize AI initiatives based on business value and feasibility.
What You Will Bring to Coupa:
- Experience: 10+ years in IT management, business analysis, or relationship management, with at least 5-7 years in a leadership role
- Strategic Thinking: Ability to translate complex business problems into technical requirements and vice versa.
- Proven Experience: working with/for business operation teams, with a focus on Post-Sales teams.
- Tool Proficiency: Experience managing portfolios within Jira; familiarity with financial planning tools like Anaplan is a plus.
- Conflict Resolution: Proven ability to manage stakeholder expectations and navigate "difficult" project shifts
- Communication: Exceptional ability to provide clear options and "ways forward" to executive leadership.
- Innovation: Demonstrated experience leading innovation, including AI strategies, from conceptualization through production.
- Collaboration: Experience in roles like Business Relationship Management, IT Business Partner, Product Management, or Operational Leadership.
