The Senior Lead Public Policy Manager will lead Pinterest’s state advocacy work and engage with government stakeholders, legislators, regulators and third-parties in the formation of public policy. They will develop comprehensive public policy plans and find creative ways to proactively strengthen our narrative across state legislatures. The ideal candidate will be able to operate independently with minimal guidance, lead multiple projects simultaneously and have in-depth practical knowledge of public policy, including content moderation and technology issues. The Senior Lead Public Policy Manager will work closely with the Legal, Comms, Product and Trust and Safety teams to provide strategic guidance during key legislative and compliance moments. 

The ideal candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of the relevant public policy landscape and a proven track record of executing on advocacy strategy and influencing public policy outcomes. The ideal candidate is a competent project manager and is able to operate independently with minimal supervision.

As a Senior Public Policy Manager, you will collaborate closely with our Legal and Comms teams to identify and advocate for key public policy initiatives (50% of the job). You will collaborate with other team members and cross functional colleagues to track and monitor legislative developments across the states (25% of the job). You will also build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders and thought leaders to position Pinterest as a thought leader on tech issues (25% of the job).


What you’ll do:

  • Track, monitor, and engage with policymakers on legislative issues
  • Discern impact of proposed legislation to Pinterest’s business, its users, and its creators and externalize this analysis to improve outcomes
  • Implement advocacy campaigns 
  • Work in a highly-matrixed organization on the development and execution of an aligned policy strategy across the U.S.
  • Advise cross functional teams (Product, Trust and Safety, Comms, Legal, etc.) on the public policy implications of internal initiatives, including but not limited to: the product development and launch process; Trust and Safety content policy development; marketing and communications public relations initiatives 


What we’re looking for:

  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts and product features for a non-technical audience: develop, monitor, interpret, and understand policies, while assessing alignment with legislative proposals 
  • Experience discerning the priorities and activities of government officials and track record of impacting legislation and other governmental outcomes
  • Demonstrated experience advising and collaborating with crossfunctional stakeholders to design and deliver effective advocacy solutions and strategies
  • Knowledge of current and emerging public policy trends relating to online content platforms, privacy, and AI 
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment with good judgment and collegiality
  • 10 years of experience working on technology policy within government, think tanks, public interest groups, law, or relevant industry associations
  • Bachelors degree in a relevant field such as Public Policy, or equivalent experience.
