At Databricks, we are passionate about enabling data teams to solve the world’s toughest problems — from making the next mode of transportation a reality to accelerating the development of medical breakthroughs. We do this by building and running the world’s best data and AI infrastructure platform so our customers can use deep data insights to improve their business.

In this role, you will lead a team of talented technical writers who develop the customer-focused technical documentation at docs.databricks.com.  You use your background in data science, development, data engineering, or business analytics to help define priorities, use cases, and information architectures. You are passionate about instructional writing, with a focus on clarity, straightforward storytelling, and an information architect's approach to organizing material. The work comes fast and furious, but you'll never let up on your attention to detail or your advocacy for the customer. If this sounds exciting, we want to hear from you!

The impact you will have

  • Manage a team of technical writers:
    • Provide guidance for prioritization and scoping work
    • Coach for performance and career development
    • Lead by example
    • Hire, develop, and nurture your team.
  • Employ Agile practices to manage and report on your team’s work in Jira.
  • Write high-impact documentation for all parts of the developer and data engineering lifecycles.
  • Work with engineers, product managers, our field, and other technical folks across the company to develop effective, customer-focused documentation.
  • Help drive a use-case-based information-architecture approach to organizing content.
  • Help us continually improve our authoring and production tools and processes.
  • Help us as we evolve how we create and manage content using AI-powered tools.

What we look for

  • 7+ years documenting sophisticated technologies for technical audiences.
  • 2+ years of experience leading and developing teams.
  • Experience working with AI, data, or developer-focused technologies.
  • Mastery of the tools of the technical writer and editor: consistent voice, straightforward and lively style, understanding of the rules of grammar and usage.
  • Demonstrated understanding of information architecture concepts and how to apply them to a rapidly changing landscape.
  • Proven project management skills.
  • Proficiency in HTML, markup languages, and Git.
  • Experience working in a docs-as-code environment, including with GitHub.
  • Understanding of cloud and distributed data infrastructure.
  • Basic proficiency in at least one programming language.
  • Experience using data analysis and web analytics to drive prioritization and decision-making.
  • Demonstrated experience innovating with AI tools to improve documentation processes and content creation.
  • Experience with periodic short and long-term planning, including requirements gathering, prioritization, and capacity planning.
