Position Summary

The Sr. Manager of Merchandise Planning & Pricing is a vital role focused on merchandise planning and inventory management for specific product categories, along with developing promotional pricing strategies. This position will support the distribution center with sales forecasts and ensure smooth operations.

In this role, the Sr. Manager will lead the development and execution of plans that aim to meet and exceed sales, gross margin, and inventory goals. Open-to-buy management will also be a key responsibility to maximize effectiveness. Regular business analysis will help identify opportunities and risks, along with creating action plans that enhance business and inventory management.

Experience in managing direct reports is essential, along with strong analytical, mathematical, problem-solving, organizational, time management, communication, and collaboration skills. This role is crucial for driving success and fostering a positive team dynamic.

Essential Duties

  • Merchandise Planning / Inventory Management
  • Build and manage top-down and bottom-up merchandise plans that align with strategic growth initiatives and deliver on key financial metrics for each product season, working collaboratively in a team environment with merchants, designers, and sourcing teams.
  • Drive sales plans and inventory investment strategy for all assigned categories that support strategic initiatives and an exceptional customer experience.
  • Partner with merchants to develop pre-season merchandise financial plans and strategies supporting product initiatives. Create bottom-up plans that align with the financial goals. Accountable for delivering results.
  • Own and maintain the open-to-buy to manage and forecast the business and provide regular visibility to inventory levels to maximize sales, margin, purchases, and product flow to achieve season-ending financial sales and inventory targets.
  • Communicate inventory position to management, re-forecast in-season open-to-buy plans based on monthly and seasonal performance, and provide recommendations for actions to drive the business.
  • Provide regular analysis of business trends, pre-season, in-season, and post-season, along with the appropriate actions that support effective inventory management, maximize sales and margin, and mitigate risk.
  • Monitor product sales regularly to recommend product reorders/cancellations and markdown strategies.
  • Partner with the sourcing team and provide long-range forecasts and seasonal item forecasts in line with the production calendar to ensure that the product is ordered and produced to support product launches.
  • Participate in the continual development and improvement of planning tools and processes.
  • Merchandise Planning / Inventory Management

  • Promotional Price Management
  • Lead the promotional price management for the inventory planning team
  • Partner with the team to develop promotional strategies that optimize AUR while managing to overall sales and inventory plans
  • Lead the executional timeline and provide guidance to the team in hitting deliverables
  • Roll up and assess each promotional event, and problem-solve as needed to hit top-down targets
  • Communicate inventory position and provide recommendations to support the creative for each event
  • Identify and create pinning recommendations for site operations to drive successful conversion

  • DC Inventory Support
  • Act as primary inventory management liaison for DC, including weekly unit sales forecasts that support promotional pricing strategy, DC bundling guidance, and periodic donation lists

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of prior planning experience in a retail environment preferred.
  • Experience managing and developing direct reports.
  • Ability to use sales financial data to make decisions and maximize profitability.
  • Ability to develop and present written reports and analyses.
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills and proficiency with retail math.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Prior experience working with planning and inventory systems is preferred.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to maintain highly effective working relationships with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to influence and negotiate effectively.


  • Education & Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Supply Chain or equivalent experience in related discipline.

Location

  • Portland OR, Hybrid (1-2 days a week in office) or *Remote [west coast hours]
  • *Light travel to Portland HQ required.
