IMPACT YOU’LL MAKE:

Are you ready to lead the charge in transforming the way BECU builds and delivers technology? As our Senior Manager of Technology – API Platform, you won’t just be managing teams—you’ll be shaping the future of how we serve our members. You’ll modernize our platform, drive engineering excellence, and be the force that turns great ideas into exceptional, working APIs that empower digital banking at scale.

This is more than a leadership role—it’s a chance to create structure where there’s ambiguity, to mentor and uplift a dedicated engineering team, and to help architect a next-gen platform that sits at the heart of BECU’s mission. If you’re a technical leader who thrives in fast-paced environments, brings clarity to complexity, and cares deeply about delivery, this is your opportunity to make a lasting impact.

To join our dynamic team, we require candidates to be residents of WA, OR, ID, AZ, TX, GA, or SC. If you’re located in Washington state and within a reasonable driving distance from Tukwila, we are requesting that you come into our HQ on Tuesdays & Wednesdays.  For those candidates that live outside the commute distance of TFC and in any of our approved remote work locations, this role will be remote. Remote or onsite, we are committed to ensuring you are fully engaged and included in our collaborative environment.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Lead API Platform Modernization:
Own a core set of APIs focused on new member originations, expanding into credit cards and core systems—driving architecture, delivery, and technical decision-making.
  • Champion Agile Engineering Excellence:
Uplift engineering practices—Sprint planning, test coverage, logging, observability, and deployment readiness—while coaching a team that’s ready for growth.
  • Drive Planning and Execution Discipline:
Build accurate project plans, track team velocity, use ADO (not spreadsheets), and ensure the team meets key deliverables with urgency and clarity.
  • Foster High-Performance Team Culture:
Mentor engineers, guide through ambiguity, and create a delivery mindset focused on learning, accountability, and ownership.
  • Collaborate Cross-Functionally for Impact:
Partner closely with stakeholders across PMO, core banking, and business units to align priorities, clarify API contracts, and deliver member-first experiences.
  • Deliver Member-Centric Solutions:
Ensure APIs are built to improve member experience—from faster account openings to seamless servicing—and support broader digital transformation.
  • Engage in Strategic Tech Leadership:
Participate in governance, financial planning, vendor management, and roadmapping, contributing to the overall technology vision.
  • Fuel Innovation Through Learning:
Stay up to date on modern architecture, DevOps, and platform trends to continuously evolve our ecosystem and team capabilities.
  • Be a Hands-On Technical Leader: Bring deep, hands-on expertise in Azure, C#, and .NET to guide technical decision-making, unblock complex issues, and ensure engineering solutions are scalable, secure, and aligned with modern cloud-native best practices. Set a technical bar by actively reviewing architecture, design, and code across the platform.

This isn’t just about ticking off tasks on a list. It's about making a significant, positive change in BECU’s journey, where your contributions are valued, and your growth is continually fostered.

WHAT YOU’LL GAIN:

  • A leadership role with real ownership—influencing technical delivery and business outcomes.
  • The opportunity to modernize a platform that directly impacts millions of members.
  • A team of developers who are eager to grow and ready to be inspired.
  • A supportive, mission-driven environment where your voice matters.
  • A front-row seat to digital transformation—rebuilding the foundation of how APIs power the credit union of the future.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of experience leading technology teams.
  • 5+ years in information technology with application design expertise.
  • Proven success building and managing technical platforms and engineering teams.
  • Experience delivering in Agile/Scrum environments.
  • Understanding of CI/CD, automation, testing practices, and incident management.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in a technology-related field.
  • Domain knowledge of financial products (Credit Cards, Deposits, Loans, etc.).
  • Experience with ERP, Infrastructure/Operations, or core banking systems like DNA.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to inspire teams and bring clarity in complex technical environments.

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
