As a Sr Product Manager for Core Products at Instructure, you'll help bring our mission to life - elevate student success, amplify the power of teaching, and inspire everyone to learn together. You will be responsible for all things learning evaluation as part of our flagship product, Canvas LMS, as well as building the next set of product innovations and features to drive growth of our core business. You’ll need to employ everything in your product toolkit to architect the product strategy, constantly discover new insights, and drive forward on execution.


What you will be doing:

  • Generate vision, goals, and opportunity assessments for area of product ownership, which for this role includes critical features that allow students to demonstrate their learning and educators to evaluate that learning and inform their instruction 
  • Think Big, Start Small: Effectively prioritize short term incremental opportunities in pursuit of longer term strategic initiatives 
  • Base decisions in evidence and insights to inform and drive decision making as part of a business case
  • Write effective user stories and acceptance criteria that are actionable by development team, considering outcome potential, competitive landscape, technical requirements, and user experience 
  • Create compelling stories that are audience specific and contextualize and humanize the problem to solve
  • Partner effectively with analytics team to understand how data insights might impact product strategy
  • Identify and document requirements across customers, prospects and internal teams
  • Organize and prioritize work in order to release with confidence and predictability 
  • Collaborate with Program Management, Design, and Engineering to deliver enhancements
  • Collaborate with other product teams to provide consistent user experiences across all products
  • Collaboration with cross-functional teams such as CX, Support, Global PMs, and Sales to fully understand our customers and their experiences to inform opportunities
  • Collaborate with marketing and sales to support go-to-market plans
  • Mentor other product team members and up-skill through informal and formal opportunities

What you will need to know/have:

  • Experience in product management, with a minimum of 5-6 years of relevant experience
  • Be a self-starter who can create a vision and has a proven record of delivering on plans and achieving outcomes
  • Strong analytical skills in leveraging data to drive product decisions and improve metrics
  • Be highly motivated and results-driven, with a strong business acumen
  • Deep user empathy and experience building products based on user needs
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with a culture of rapid experimentation to accelerate learning and iteration
  • Ability to influence and build alignment between different teams and functions to successfully execute your roadmap and deliver against goals
  • Experience in the education industry is a plus (but not required)
