As a global leader in cybersecurity, CrowdStrike protects the people, processes and technologies that drive modern organizations. Since 2011, our mission hasn’t changed — we’re here to stop breaches, and we’ve redefined modern security with the world’s most advanced AI-native platform. We work on large scale distributed systems, processing almost 3 trillion events per day and this traffic is growing daily. Our customers span all industries, and they count on CrowdStrike to keep their businesses running, their communities safe and their lives moving forward. We’re also a mission-driven company. We cultivate a culture that gives every CrowdStriker both the flexibility and autonomy to own their careers. We’re always looking to add talented CrowdStrikers to the team who have limitless passion, a relentless focus on innovation and a fanatical commitment to our customers, our community and each other. Ready to join a mission that matters? The future of cybersecurity starts with you.

About the Team:

The SDMF Core team is responsible for CrowdStrike's principal data model, metadata catalog, query language specification, and query compiler used by the associated query services.  The catalog scope runs the gamut from internal sources and users, to trusted third parties, and open industry standards.

Our mission is to enable data interoperability among all consumers, producers, and inquirers.

About the Role:

We are looking for a colleague to help develop and maintain a specialized semantic data framework which serves as the backbone of several cloud services, libraries, and databases at CrowdStrike.

What You'll Do:

  • Design and develop performant developer tools for data modeling, transformation, and code generation

  • Collaborate with colleagues who focus on semantic modeling, language/compiler design, and developer toolchains

  • Own features from design to delivery, including sustained care after release

  • Serve as the data modeling and/or compiler expert for the team

  • Collaborate with other teams on cross-functional design of developer-facing APIs and tools

  • Understand and evolve the larger system architecture and its impact on development workflows and tooling

What You’ll Need:

  • Experience building data-model-driven declarative systems and domain-specific languages

  • Experience with compiler implementation, data-model verification, and developer tooling

  • Experience with developing cloud-based or similar highly concurrent, distributed systems

  • Familiarity with schema design, type systems, and data transformation pipelines

  • Proficient in transforming structured and unstructured data into other representations, be it executable code or data models

  • Strong background in Computer Science: algorithms, graphs, computation theory (recursion, automatas, regular expressions, etc)

  • Experience writing production quality code in Rust and Python, but also willingness to learn Go and JavaScript/TypeScript – polyglot engineers most welcome

  • Comfortable with testing as a first-class activity: unit testing, integration testing, end-to-end testing, fuzzy/property-based testing, etc.

  • Deliver and accept feedback with grace and courtesy

  • Strong sense of ownership accompanied by low ego

  • Proactivity

  • Comfortable working in a distributed environment across multiple time zones

Bonus Points:

  • Experience developing code within a well-defined information architecture

  • Experience implementing functional compilers and/or database engines

  • Code optimization and performance assessment/profiling/testing

  • Experience developing CLI tools, tests, and test automation

  • Extensive experience with testing frameworks, orchestration systems and their integration into Jenkins, Gitlab CI, or similar CI/CD environment

  • Experience in a functional programming paradigm, such as Erlang, Haskell, Scala, or OCaml

  • Familiarity with formal software verification methods, such as Alloy, TLA+, or Agda

  • Experience with Graph Databases, Semantics and Ontologies

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
