At F5 we are looking for a Senior Principal Engineer to work on BIGIP and BIGIP Next products improving network performance on our various supported platforms. At F5 performance is a key area and this role will include designing code for performance and evaluating existing performance daily. This role is crucial in reaching our performance objectives across all platforms. The ideal candidate must display technical ability and leadership, collaboration across various teams and mentoring ability.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Serve as technical lead in performance related design and implementation.
  • Collaborate across organizations aligning performance goals with Product Management, Architects and other leaders across the company.
  • Mentor junior members of the team.
  • Troubleshoot performance issues across hardware and software.
  • Define technical documents, white papers and presentations outlining performance strategy across various products and platforms.

Knowledge, Skills, Ability

  • Must have deep understanding of low level programming languages including optimizing compilers and memory management, algorithms and data structures.
  • Must understand X86 and ARM architectures and corresponding assembly language.
  • Understand the interaction between hardware components and software as it relates to performance impacts including memory management, process scheduling and system calls.
  • Must understand Linux kernel and Linux-based operating systems.
  • Must understand Performance Analysis Tools and profiling tools such as oprofile, perf, gprof, PGO and other benchmarking tools.
  • Must have in depth knowledge of networking concepts and networking protocols across all layers of the OSI Model – Understand IPV4/IPV6 and various protocols HTTP, HTTPS and other well-known protocols.

The annual base pay for this position is: $207,279.00 - $310,919.00
