About DataCamp

DataCamp's mission is to empower everyone with the data and AI skills essential for 21st-century success. By providing practical, engaging learning experiences, DataCamp equips learners and organizations of all sizes to harness the power of data and AI. As a trusted partner to over 17 million learners and 6,000+ companies, including 80% of the Fortune 1000, DataCamp is leading the charge in addressing the critical data and AI skills shortage.

About the role

Research has consistently shown that one-on-one tutoring dramatically outperforms traditional classroom instruction—a finding known as Bloom's 2 Sigma Problem. Despite decades of awareness, no solution has successfully delivered personalized tutoring at scale. Until now.

We’re building an AI Creator that turns learning into action—empowering users to instantly build, experiment, and solve real-world problems, transforming knowledge into tangible impact from day one.. You will work on the core AI system that delivers real-time, adaptive learning experiences to learners. If you're excited about building the future of human learning, this role is for you.

About you

You’re a strong builder who thrives on turning cutting-edge AI capabilities into real, high-impact products. You operate with high ownership, move quickly, and care deeply about quality—balancing experimentation with disciplined execution.

You’re comfortable working in ambiguity but don’t wait for perfect direction—you break down problems, make progress, and iterate. You want to work on systems that matter, alongside people who are pushing the boundaries of how AI can transform learning.

Responsibilities
  • Own the design and implementation of key components of the AI tutoring system, including prompt architectures, agentic workflows, and adaptive behaviors.
  • Drive experiments end-to-end—shipping, measuring, and iterating to improve learning outcomes and model performance.
  • Build production-grade systems that integrate LLM capabilities into user-facing experiences with reliability, speed, and scalability.
  • Translate product and pedagogical goals into concrete technical solutions, working closely with product, content, and design.
  • Rapidly prototype and deploy new model capabilities, bridging the gap between research breakthroughs and real user impact.
  • Strengthen system quality through robust testing, monitoring, and iteration—ensuring safe and consistent behavior at scale.
  • Raise the bar through strong code, pragmatic technical decisions, and active participation in design and code reviews.
QualificationsTechnical
  • Proven experience building and shipping LLM-powered products in production environments.
  • Strong prompt engineering skills and hands-on experience with agentic workflows or multi-step model interactions.
  • Solid grasp of experimentation—comfortable designing, running, and interpreting experiments to drive improvements.
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals (Python), with experience building scalable systems and working in modern production environments.
Product & Pedagogy
  • Strong product instincts—able to connect model behavior to user experience and outcomes.
  • Interest in building effective learning experiences; curiosity about how people learn and where AI can accelerate that.
  • Ability to work closely with non-engineering stakeholders to ship cohesive, user-centered solutions.
Character & Collaboration
  • High ownership and bias for action—you move things forward without waiting for perfect clarity.
  • Comfortable operating in fast-moving environments with evolving constraints.
  • Clear communicator who contributes to a strong, low-ego engineering culture.

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
