Description of Work
The North Carolina Business Court is a specialized division of the North Carolina Superior Court. Cases involving complex and significant issues of civil law are designated by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of North Carolina for assignment to a Business Court Judge who adjudicates all matters in the case through trial. Judges Mark A. Davis and Matthew T. Houston of the Raleigh Division of the North Carolina Business Court are seeking a qualified individual to serve as a Staff Attorney.
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Assisting Judges in drafting orders and opinions;
Assisting Judges with docket management;
Communicating with counsel in pending cases regarding case management matters;
Conducting legal research on a variety of complex legal issues;
Tracking current developments in the law.
The candidate must have a strong interest in civil litigation and must have strong analytical and writing skills.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies:
Knowledge of and familiarity with: court rules and procedures; case, statutory, regulatory, and common law; ethical rules; the practical aspects of trial court level practice; and electronic legal research methods and procedures.
Skills in: strong analytical, organizational, and writing skills; familiarity with Uniform Citation Rules contained in the Bluebook; and effective communication in a professional setting.
Ability to: analyze facts, laws, rules, regulations, interpretations, and written documents and apply them to specific legal issues; produce legal interpretations in an efficient, timely, and responsive manner for court officials; communicate clearly and concisely in both written and oral formats; recognize and solve problems; act as a professional representative of the Court; and collaborate and work well as a member of a team.

Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
