About the team & opportunity

What’s so great about working on Calendly’s Infrastructure team?
The Cloud Infrastructure team sits at the center of Calendly’s platform, enabling reliability, scalability, and performance for millions of users around the world. We own the systems and platforms that power Calendly’s core product, and our work directly impacts every engineering team across the company. As part of this team, you’ll work on high-leverage problems at the intersection of infrastructure, product, and finance. You’ll have the opportunity to influence architectural decisions, introduce new practices and tooling, and shape how Calendly thinks about sustainable growth and operational excellence. This is a team that values strong technical judgment, thoughtful tradeoffs, and long-term thinking.
Why do we need you? We are looking for a Staff FinOps Engineer who brings deep technical expertise, strong ownership, and a passion for driving impact at scale. This role serves as a critical bridge between Finance, Engineering, and Operations, ensuring sustainable cloud and SaaS usage while enabling rapid innovation. You will report to the Director of Infrastructure and will be responsible for owning FinOps strategy and execution across Calendly’s cloud and SaaS infrastructure, partnering closely with Infrastructure, Data, Product, and Finance teams.

A day in the life of a Staff Cloud FinOps Engineer at Calendly

On a typical day, you will:

  • Build foundational FinOps capabilities, including cost visibility, forecasting, dashboards, and actionable reporting
  • Establish and lead Calendly’s FinOps practice by driving cloud and SaaS cost optimization across compute, storage, databases, observability, and search platforms
  • Analyze infrastructure usage and cost drivers to design and implement durable, high-impact technical optimizations
  • Partner with Infrastructure and Data teams to influence architecture, tooling, and operational decisions with cost efficiency in mind
  • Collaborate with Finance and Procurement to support budgeting, forecasting, and vendor cost optimization efforts
  • Translate complex cost and usage data into clear recommendations for engineering leaders and executives

What do we need from you?

  • 8+ years of experience in cloud infrastructure, platform engineering, SRE, FinOps, or a related technical role, with demonstrated impact beyond a single team or system
  • Deep hands-on experience with modern cloud platforms and SaaS providers (e.g., GCP or AWS; Datadog, Elastic, managed databases), including cost and usage optimization at scale
  • Proven ability to define and drive cost optimization initiatives from problem identification through technical execution and measurable outcomes
  • Experience operating effectively in high-ambiguity environments, setting direction where no established FinOps practice exists
  • Strong analytical skills with a track record of turning complex billing and usage data into strategic, durable engineering solutions
  • Exceptional communication skills, including the ability to shape decisions with senior engineering leaders and business partners without formal authority
  • Availability for participation in an on-call rotation, ensuring timely and effective responses to critical production issues outside of regular working hours.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience building or scaling a FinOps practice as an early or first hire
  • Track record of driving company-wide or multi-team infrastructure cost initiatives with sustained impact
  • FinOps Foundation certification or equivalent depth of applied experience
  • Background in Infrastructure, SRE, or Data platform teams supporting large-scale, cloud-native systems
  • Experience designing or implementing cost-aware platforms, guardrails, or self-service tooling for engineering teams
  • Strong understanding of cloud vendor pricing models, discount programs, and long-term cost strategy tradeoffs
  • Experience presenting cost, ROI, and optimization strategies to executive or VP-level stakeholders
  • Experience supporting high-growth SaaS products with usage-based or variable cost models

And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
