As a Staff CloudOps Engineer and Tech Lead, you'll oversee cloud architecture, enhance operational excellence, mentor teams, and ensure system reliability and compliance while driving innovation in AI and automation within a hybrid work environment.
At RevolutionParts, we build AI-powered technology that drives how automotive parts are bought and sold online—at real scale, with real complexity, and real impact. Our platform powers eCommerce for thousands of dealerships, supporting massive catalogs, real-time inventory, complex pricing, and high-volume order processing.
As we scale, we’re modernizing our infrastructure, accelerating delivery, and strengthening reliability—and this role is central to that mission.
We’re seeking a Staff CloudOps Engineer & Tech Lead to serve as the technical authority for our infrastructure organization. This is a high-impact individual contributor role with broad influence across Engineering, Product, Data, and Security.
You’ll own cloud architecture and operational excellence while setting the technical bar, mentoring engineers, and enabling teams to ship faster and safer. This role blends deep hands-on expertise with strong communication, delegation, and strategic leadership.
*Please note that this is a hybrid role that requires that you work from our Tempe, Arizona, offices at least 2 days per week (Tuesdays and Thursdays). If you do not currently live in Arizona, you must be willing to relocate to Arizona, or you cannot be considered for the role.
AI Fluency & Modern Tooling
At RevolutionParts, we expect team members to actively use modern tools — including AI-powered systems — to improve decision-making, productivity, and quality of work.
This includes:
- Using AI tools responsibly to accelerate research, analysis, documentation, and problem-solving
- Exercising strong judgment around data privacy, accuracy, and ethical use
- Continuously learning and adapting as AI capabilities evolve
Proven examples of using AI to improve outcomes in prior roles is expected.
What You’ll Do
Technical Strategy & Leadership
- Partner with Engineering leadership to define infrastructure vision, quarterly OKRs, and multi-quarter roadmaps.
- Translate business goals into scalable, secure, and reliable cloud architecture utilizing visual diagramming to drive consensus.
- Establish reference architectures, standards, and best practices across the organization.
- Act as the primary technical communicator for major infrastructure initiatives.
- Foster a "service-provider" mindset, ensuring the CloudOps team is responsive, communicative, and acts as a partner rather than a bottleneck to the R&D organization.
Cloud Architecture & Operations
- Own AWS architecture across compute (EC2/EKS), networking, data (RDS, Elasticsearch), and multi-region strategies.
- Lead Kubernetes platform evolution, performance tuning, and auto-scaling.
- Drive Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform) and CI/CD maturity to reduce toil and increase deployment velocity while ensuring robust rollback strategies.
- Improve reliability through strong observability, SLOs, alerting, and incident management.
- Promote a healthy on-call culture by refining alerting and utilizing offshore support to protect work-life balance.
- Lead root-cause analysis for incidents and codify learnings into systemic architectural improvements.
- Improve visibility and failure-reporting for mission-critical nightly batch processing.
Automation, Scale & Developer Enablement
- Build self-service tooling and guardrails that empower engineers while reducing manual CloudOps work.
- Automate repetitive operational tasks into runbooks and workflows using Terraform, Python and Github Actions
- Improve intake, prioritization, and execution of CloudOps work to keep focus on high-leverage initiatives.
- Analyze request lifecycles to optimize the interplay between EKS, RDS connection pooling, and Cloudflare caching.
Security, Compliance & Cost Ownership
- Serve as the technical lead for ISO27001, PCI, and SOC2 compliance and audits.
- Lead Cloudflare configuration (WAF, Workers, Zero Trust), automated security patching, and AWS security posture.
- Own cloud cost visibility and infrastructure tagging to ensure accurate team attribution, embedding ‘cost-to-serve’ as a primary metric in all architectural decisions.
- Drive business continuity and disaster recovery planning.
- Maintain technical relationships with key vendors (AWS, Cloudflare, DataDog) to ensure platform health and support escalation.
Mentorship & Cross-Team Influence
- Raise the technical bar through design reviews, mentorship, and strategic delegation as a vehicle for teammate growth.
- Foster a culture of accountability, autonomy, and operational excellence.
- Act as a trusted advisor for major platform and architectural decisions.
- Prioritize high-bandwidth communication and strong follow-up to ensure stakeholders are informed and supported during platform changes.
What We’re Looking For
- 10+ years in Cloud, Platform, or SRE roles, including experience as a technical lead for large-scale SaaS systems.
- Deep expertise in AWS and Kubernetes (EC2, EKS, SQS/SNS, networking, scaling, security).
- Strong experience with data platforms (RDS/Aurora, Elasticsearch, S3, Athena, Glue) and performance optimization.
- Expert-level Infrastructure-as-Code and CI/CD experience (Terraform, Python, GitHub Actions).
- Comprehensive knowledge of Cloudflare (WAF, Workers, Zero Trust) and Route 53.
- Advanced observability, reliability, and incident response leadership.
- Proven experience with regulated environments (PCI, SOC2) and audit readiness.
- Strong cloud economics and FinOps mindset.
- Excellent communicator with the ability to balance strategic leadership and hands-on execution.
Why This Role Matters
Your work will directly impact:
- Platform uptime, security, and customer trust
- Engineering velocity and developer experience
- Infrastructure efficiency and company margins
- The scalability and compliance of our global platform
You won’t just keep systems running—you’ll define how they evolve.
The base pay range for this role is $175,000 – $200,000 per year.
