We are seeking a Database Reliability Engineer (DBRE) with strong Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) skills to join our team.
This role will focus on ensuring the performance, scalability, availability, and reliability of our database systems while driving automation, observability, and operational excellence.
You will collaborate closely with SREs, software engineers, and security teams to enhance database reliability through best practices and innovative solutions.
What You'll Do:
- Design, implement, and maintain highly available, scalable, and resilient database systems.
- Develop and apply SRE principles to database operations, including monitoring, observability, incident response, and automation.
- Optimize database performance and query tuning to improve efficiency and reduce latency.
- Automate database provisioning, backups, and schema changes using Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools.
- Ensure effective database replication, clustering, failover mechanisms, and disaster recovery strategies.
- Establish and enforce database security best practices, including access control and encryption.
- Collaborate with software engineers to design database schemas and indexing strategies that align with application needs.
- Drive database infrastructure improvements using CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment strategies.
- Participate and manage on-call rotations and provide expert guidance during incidents and post-mortems.
- Stay current with emerging database technologies, best practices, and industry trends.
What You'll Bring:
- Strong experience with Postgres.
- Strong scripting and automation skills in Python, Go, or Bash.
- Proficiency in performance tuning, query optimization, and indexing strategies.
- Hands-on experience with IaC (e.g. Terraform, Pulumi).
- Solid understanding of AWS cloud services, with specific expertise in and experience with RDS.
- Familiarity with observability and monitoring tools (e.g. Datadog, Splunk).
- Understanding of high availability, clustering, and disaster recovery strategies.
- Experience implementing database backup, restore, and replication strategies.
- Knowledge of CI/CD workflows and database change management.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, privacy- and security-focused environment.

The target base salary for this position ranges from $202,000 to $243,000, in addition to a competitive equity and benefits package (as applicable). When determining compensation, we analyze and carefully consider several factors, including location, job-related knowledge, skills and experience. These considerations may cause your compensation to vary.
Ro recognizes the power of in-person collaboration, while supporting the flexibility to work anywhere in the United States. For our Ro’ers in the tri-state (NY) area, you will join us at HQ on Tuesdays and Thursdays. For those outside of the tri-state area, you will be able to join in-person collaborations throughout the year (i.e., during team on-sites).
