The Role:

We are looking for an Staff Enterprise Proposal Writer to join our Go-to-Market / Enterprise Proposals team. As an Enterprise Proposal Writer, you’ll be part of a cross-functional team whose mission is to help IonQ turn breakthrough quantum technologies into persuasive commercial narratives that win customer confidence and accelerate revenue.

In this role, you will report to the Staff Enterprise Proposal Writer and partner with field engineering, engineering, product, marketing, sales, business development, legal, and finance to create compliant, differentiated, high-quality responses for enterprise opportunities. The ideal candidate is a disciplined storyteller who can simplify complex technical requirements into crisp business outcomes and keep the bar high under deadline pressure.

Responsibilities:

  • Write, edit, and refine proposal content for enterprise RFPs, RFIs, RFQs, compliance matrices, and related response materials.
  • Partner with the Proposal Manager and cross-functional subject matter experts to gather inputs, clarify requirements, and turn technical details into clear, customer-relevant narrative.
  • Translate complex information about IonQ’s compute, networking, sensing, and security capabilities into compelling value propositions for business and technical audiences.
  • Develop high-quality executive summaries, solution descriptions, implementation narratives, company qualification sections, and tailored answers to customer requirements.
  • Ensure every response is accurate, compliant, well-structured, and aligned to IonQ’s positioning, win themes, and brand voice.
  • Interview stakeholders efficiently, identify missing information quickly, and synthesize inputs into polished first drafts with minimal rework.
  • Support the creation and maintenance of reusable proposal assets, boilerplate, proof points, and content-library materials that improve response speed and consistency.
  • Contribute to review cycles by incorporating feedback rapidly, tightening language, and improving clarity, readability, and persuasion.
  • Manage multiple deadlines and shifting priorities while maintaining quality, version control, and attention to detail.
  • Help elevate the overall standard of IonQ’s commercial proposal output by identifying messaging gaps, process improvements, and repeatable best practices.

What Success Looks Like

  • Month 3 — You know IonQ's portfolio well enough to write about trapped-ion computing, quantum networking, and security without leaning on SMEs for every sentence. Your first drafts are compliant, well-structured, and require minimal rework. You're operating inside the Proposal Manager's rhythm and have built the cross-functional relationships that make fast turnarounds possible.
  • Month 6 — You're managing multiple live opportunities simultaneously — international, enterprise, and partner-facing — and delivering executive summaries, solution narratives, and compliance matrices on deadline without dropping quality. The content library is better because you're in it. Revision cycles are shorter because your calibration to IonQ's voice and positioning is sharp.
  • Month 9 — You're the writer people trust when the opportunity matters. Your reusable assets are cutting response time across the team. You're not waiting to be asked — you're flagging messaging gaps, spotting inconsistencies in how we tell our story, and making the whole proposal function faster and more credible. At a company moving as fast as IonQ, that kind of ownership compounds quickly.

Requirements:

  • 8+ years of professional experience in proposal writing, technical writing, solutions writing, sales content development, or a related field within enterprise technology, deep tech, cybersecurity, networking, hardware, cloud, or B2B SaaS.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, English, Journalism, Technical Writing, Business, Marketing, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Proven experience writing clear, compliant, and persuasive responses to customer requirements in RFP, RFI, RFQ, questionnaire, or similar structured-response environments.
  • Strong ability to absorb technical input quickly and translate it into language that is understandable, credible, and motivating for mixed audiences.
  • Excellent writing, editing, interviewing, and storytelling skills, with a sharp eye for structure, consistency, grammar, and message quality.
  • Experience collaborating effectively with subject matter experts across technical and commercial teams in a fast-moving, cross-functional environment.
  • Strong organization and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously and meet hard deadlines.
  • High ownership, curiosity, and follow-through; a doer who proactively closes gaps and keeps work moving forward.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • APMP Foundation or other proposal-writing / proposal-management training.
  • Experience writing for complex enterprise technologies such as quantum, cybersecurity, networking, AI infrastructure, cloud platforms, or advanced hardware.
  • Experience drafting executive summaries, customer-facing business cases, security questionnaire responses, and differentiated solution narratives.
  • Familiarity with proposal management tools, content-library systems, and AI-assisted drafting workflows used responsibly in commercial proposal environments.
  • Experience in a startup or high-growth environment where speed, adaptability, and clarity directly influence revenue outcomes.
