Job Description

About the Role

Motorola Solutions VESTA NEXT Routing Services delivers Next Generation Core Services (NGCS) supporting NG9-1-1 call routing across mission-critical public safety environments. The VESTA® Router platform enables the routing of voice, SMS, and multimedia emergency communications using NENA i3 standards to Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs).

This role is part of the Infrastructure Engineering team responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the core network infrastructure supporting NGCS deployments across geographically distributed data centers.

The Network Engineer will design, implement, and support complex, multi-tenant network environments that underpin NG9-1-1 call routing services. This role requires strong ownership of network infrastructure supporting high availability, low latency, and resilient call delivery in mission-critical environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Configure and support Layer 2/Layer 3 networking including BGP, OSPF, VRRP, QoS, ACLs, NAT, and DNS

  • Support integration with carrier networks and third-party providers (OSP interconnects, backhaul, transport)

  • Deploy and maintain network components including switching, routing, firewalls (e.g., FortiGate), load balancing, and DNS services

  • Participate in network architecture design, capacity planning, and performance optimization

  • Develop and execute Methods of Procedure (MoPs) for network upgrades, expansions, and maintenance activities

  • Support change management processes, including participation in internal and customer CAB reviews

  • Troubleshoot complex network issues across distributed environments and drive resolution to completion

  • Collaborate with Product, Deployment, and Operations teams to improve reliability, scalability, and operational efficiency

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)

  • 3+ years of experience in a Network Engineer or similar role

  • Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, routing protocols, and network design principles

  • Experience supporting mission-critical or high-availability environments

  • Hands-on experience with routing, switching, firewalls, and network security technologies

  • Experience with virtualized network environments (e.g., VMware, NSX, or similar) preferred

  • Familiarity with multi-tenant or service provider environments preferred

  • Certifications (CCNA/CCNP or equivalent) preferred

Additional Skills

  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills

  • Ability to work independently while maintaining accountability in a team environment

  • Experience documenting and executing operational procedures

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly convey technical concepts

  • Ability to mentor and support team development

Additional Requirements

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
