About Us:

Read AI is building the storage of intelligence to drive the future of AI. Helping individuals and teams stay on track across meetings, email, messages, and every major productivity tool. We handle the mundane tasks like notes, scheduling, prioritization, and information sharing so people can focus on what matters.
Backed by $81M from Smash Capital, Madrona, and Goodwater Capital, we’re growing fast and looking for builders who want to shape the future of AI-powered work.

The Role:

We’re hiring a Staff Product Designer to shape the core experience of Read AI.

This role is about foundations. You’ll define the systems, structures, and standards that make our product coherent across web, mobile, and desktop. Your work will influence how every feature is built and how every team ships.

You’ll work across product and engineering to:

  • Build and evolve our design system

  • Simplify and strengthen navigation and information architecture

  • Raise the visual and interaction quality of the product

  • Create consistency across platforms

This is an org-level role. You won’t just design screens — you’ll define how the product is structured and how design scales at Read.

What You’ll Do:
Define and Scale Our Design System
  • Lead the development of a scalable design system across platforms

  • Define components, patterns, tokens, and documentation

  • Partner closely with engineering to ensure high-quality implementation

  • Create systems that empower teams to move faster without sacrificing quality

Reshape and Strengthen Product Architecture
  • Clarify navigation and information hierarchy across the product

  • Reduce complexity in enterprise workflows

  • Establish scalable structures that support future growth

  • Ensure consistency across web, mobile, and desktop experiences

Raise the Craft Bar
  • Raise the bar for visual design, typography, spacing, and interaction detail

  • Bring thoughtful restraint and clarity to AI-powered workflows

  • Provide strong critique and mentorship to other designers

  • Help define what “good” looks like at Read

Drive Cross-Functional Alignment
  • Influence structural decisions alongside Product and Engineering

  • Contribute to roadmap conversations where system design matters

  • Advocate for clarity, usability, and coherence

What We’re Looking For:
  • 7+ years of experience designing digital products at scale

  • Experience building or significantly evolving a design system

  • Strong systems thinking — you think in structures, not just screens

  • Experience defining navigation and IA for complex products

  • A high bar for visual craft and attention to detail

  • Experience designing multi-platform products (web, mobile, desktop)

  • Comfort influencing across teams and operating with autonomy

You care about clarity. You care about quality. You know that strong foundations make everything else possible.

Nice to Have:
  • Experience in productivity, collaboration, or enterprise software

  • Experience designing AI-powered product experiences

  • Experience raising the craft bar in a growing team

Why This Role Matters:

As we scale, the strength of our systems will determine how well we build. This role ensures we create a product that is coherent, high quality, and built to last.

If you’re excited about shaping the foundations of a product used by millions — and setting the standard for how design operates inside a growing company — we’d love to hear from you.
