Build and maintain security controls for live cloud systems, including cloud infrastructure, container platforms, access management, and infrastructure-as-code. Embed secure development practices into product and platform engineering, advise on secure system designs, support compliance audits, and write and deploy security tools and infrastructure. The role also contributes to security strategy, hiring, and potentially future team leadership, with a focus on application security and AI-related threats.

About the company

Our client is a software company.

The role

Raydar is recruiting for this role on behalf of our client. This is a hands-on engineering role in which you personally build the safeguards that protect cloud infrastructure and software delivery. You will work with product and platform engineers so that new services and systems are protected from the outset. The position also helps shape the growth of the security function and may later lead to managing a group.

What you'll do

- Take full responsibility for protecting live cloud systems, building the controls yourself.

- Harden cloud infrastructure, container platforms, access management and infrastructure-as-code configurations.

- Weave protective development habits into how services, automated components and infrastructure are designed and released.

- Keep the technical controls behind compliance audits in good order, coordinating on audit-related work with the colleague who runs corporate IT and governance.

- Judge where the security function needs added capacity and take part in recruiting future colleagues.

- Review designs with product and platform engineers and advise on protective patterns.

- Possible path toward leading a security group in time, if you wish.

Requirements

What we're looking for

- Holds a senior-level engineering title and has been accountable for protecting demanding live cloud environments.

- Strong engineer with deep security knowledge spanning cloud platforms, container orchestration, access control, infrastructure automation and secure development practice, leaning toward application security.

- Hands-on track record of writing and deploying their own security code, tools or infrastructure rather than only directing others.

- Track record of shaping technical direction beyond their own team and of making tradeoffs clear to people outside engineering.

- Practical experience with language models and awareness of the threats unique to AI-driven software, such as attacks that slip instructions into model inputs.

Bonus points

- Academic or athletic achievements, such as a degree from a highly regarded non-computing program before moving into software, or elite college sport participation.

- Earlier senior engineering work at a large technology employer, then time at a smaller company, or joining a rapidly growing firm as one of its first security hires.

Benefits

Compensation and benefits

- Base salary: USD 175,000 to 275,000 per year

- Equity

Location and work model

- Seattle, Washington, United States

- On-site, 5 days a week, with flexible hours

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
