About the Role

Are you passionate about building high‑performance backend systems while also delivering polished, intuitive front-end experiences? Trase Systems is seeking a Staff Software Engineer with strong backend emphasis to help architect, build, and scale the platforms that power our agentic applications. You will design and deliver end‑to‑end features, shape foundational engineering patterns, and elevate the technical bar across the organization.

If you're a hands-on problem solver with a passion for innovation and shaping the future of enterprise AI, we invite you to join our mission.

Responsibilities
  • Architect, implement, and maintain core backend services and the front-end layers that interact with them.
  • Lead end-to-end system design for new product capabilities, from data models to API design to UI interactions.
  • Build and optimize distributed systems that support high throughput, low latency, and seamless user experiences.
  • Establish engineering standards for full stack development, including API contracts, component composition, and deployment practices.
  • Introduce new technologies, frameworks, and patterns to improve developer velocity and system reliability.
  • Evaluate and refine performance across the stack (database, backend services, front-end rendering, caching strategies).
  • Partner closely with product management and design to translate customer needs into scalable solutions.
  • Lead cross-team technical initiatives, coordinating architectural alignment across backend, platform, and UI groups.
  • Develop internal tools and frameworks that streamline development and improve operational efficiency.
  • Mentor engineers through code reviews, pairing, and technical design guidance.
Requirements
  • 10+ years building production web applications across backend and front-end layers, with deep backend expertise.
  • Strong proficiency with Python, Go, or Typescript, plus experience with modern front-end frameworks (React, Next.js, Vue, etc.).
  • Proven ownership of distributed systems, API-driven architectures, and cloud-native services.
  • Broad experience with cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, Azure), Kubernetes, and infrastructure-as-code.
  • Familiarity with relational and NoSQL databases, caching systems, and data modeling best practices.
  • Strong understanding of UI architecture principles and front-end performance fundamentals.
  • Ability to influence engineering strategy, guide architectural decisions, and drive technical alignment across teams.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
Benefits
  • 100% employer-paid, comprehensive health care including medical, dental, and vision for you and your family.
  • Paid maternity and paternity for 14 weeks at employees' normal pay.

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
