The Role:
As a Senior Backend Engineer in eBay’s Core Shipping Product & Technology team, you will help redefine how shipping works for eBay and beyond. Shipping links our digital marketplace with real-world logistics. It streamlines choices for thousands of sellers, works with carriers worldwide, and offers fast, dependable, and efficient delivery options for millions of buyers.

We simplify options for thousands of sellers, partner with carriers across the globe, and provide cheap, fast and reliable options for millions of buyers. Shipping is a core eBay initiative responsible for delivering the world’s greatest selection cheaply, conveniently and dependably. The shipping team at eBay powers:
Convenient shipping options to pick up from lockers or stores
Manage international shipping challenges (Customs, Import Requirements etc.) on behalf of sellers
Integrated Tracking and Label Printing Platform
Predictive models for Delivery Estimates, Shipping Recommendations, Item Weight/Dimensions
Innovative solutions for Transport Intermediation
Fast and Free shipping loyalty programs

You will have opportunities to:

Design and implement projects throughout all phases of the software development process.

Requirements
Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field like Mathematics (or Bachelor's degree and 5 years of relevant experience)
Excellent coding skills in Java, Python or C# (will be primarily coding in Java) and proven use of test automation to certify your code
Outstanding design and problem solving skills, passion for quality and engineering excellence at scale. Experience in distributed systems, database technologies, and online services is a strong plus
Strong written and verbal social skills
Passion for learning and implementing creative large-scale architectural patterns to turn business requirements into simple solutions
Have a genuine love for technology, a curiosity for playing with the latest tools and open source frameworks, and the ability to work in a fast paced, iterative development environment
Additional Details
The base pay range for this position is expected in the range below:
$196,800 - $262,700Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
If hired, employees will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
