Enable Internet businesses to sell across borders

We’re tackling a key challenge for all Internet businesses today: navigating the changing landscape of tax. In the last few years, software businesses have gone from not having to worry about sales tax, to needing to monitor their exposure, calculate local sales tax rates, and file returns in over 20 US states and many countries worldwide.

So much of our economy today and tomorrow exists online. The internet economy has grown 6x over the last 10 years and software development productivity is only positioned to accelerate. Companies should be able to transact with customers everywhere. Anrok is building the tools behind the scenes that make compliant digital commerce a reality for companies big and small.

Anrok connects with billing and payment systems to automate sales tax compliance end-to-end. We have raised over $50M from leading investors like Sequoia, Index, and Khosla Ventures.

We’re looking for an experienced State Tax specialist in taxability research and tax data management to join our team. This role will be responsible for determining proper taxability treatments across multiple jurisdictions, maintaining accurate tax rate data, and collaborating with engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of tax data into our product systems.

In this role, you will

  • Own the management and maintenance of tax rate data across all applicable state and local jurisdictions, with additional international assistance as required.

  • Implement systematic processes for timely identification and validation of tax rate changes and partner with engineering and product teams to implement tax rate changes and taxability rules in product systems

  • Monitor state and local tax legislative and regulatory developments to identify impacts on product taxability

  • Establish quality control procedures to ensure the accuracy of tax rates and taxability rules in systems

  • Prepare technical research documentation to support findings and taxability determinations

What excites us

  • 3-5+ years of experience in state and local taxation with a specific focus on taxability research

  • Ability to translate complex tax requirements into clear technical specifications

  • Exceptional analytical and critical thinking abilities

  • Superior written and verbal communication skills

  • Detail-oriented with strong data management capabilities

What we offer

  • The equity upside of an early-stage startup with the product-market fit of a later-stage company.

  • Daily lunch and snacks for those working out of our San Francisco office.

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance covered 100%.

  • One Medical membership covered, flexible sick benefits, and more.

  • Annual learning and development stipend for books, online courses, and conferences, as well as a curious team to share your learnings with.

  • Annual team offsites and in-person opportunities around our growing Anrok hubs.

  • Home office setup stipend to ensure you have the equipment you need to thrive at work.

For employees based in the San Francisco Bay Area, New York City, and Salt Lake City we follow a hybrid model. Where we come into the office 3 days a week to collaborate in person.

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
