Provide visible unarmed transit security through patrols, monitoring surveillance, reporting incidents, responding to emergencies and evacuations, enforcing policies, de-escalating conflicts, and coordinating with law enforcement and emergency responders. Maintain documentation and ensure passenger safety and equipment operability.
We are seeking a professional, dependable, and vigilant Unarmed Transit Security Officer to help ensure a safe and welcoming environment for the public. The ideal candidate is proactive, calm under pressure, and committed to delivering exceptional customer service while protecting people and property.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain a strong, visible presence throughout assigned areas, performing routine security patrols and checkpoint check-ins.
- Monitor for and promptly report suspicious behavior, safety hazards, and equipment malfunctions (e.g., escalator issues, liquid spills), using proper documentation and communication protocols.
- Enforce applicable laws, organizational policies, and procedures to maintain public order and safety.
- Provide professional and courteous assistance to passengers and members of the public, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment.
- Respond to various incidents including medical emergencies, individuals in crisis, safety hazards, and maintenance-related issues.
- Participate in partial or full evacuations and respond to mass casualty incidents (MCIs), including deployment of MCI equipment when necessary.
- Observe and report on the operability and safety of vertical conveyances (e.g., elevators and escalators).
- Monitor surveillance systems and alarm panels to maintain situational awareness and identify potential threats.
- Intervene to prevent or de-escalate actions that may be harmful to individuals or property, exercising sound judgment and conflict resolution skills.
- Work collaboratively with fellow officers, law enforcement, emergency responders, and other agencies to ensure coordinated safety efforts.
- Prepare accurate, detailed, and timely reports documenting incidents, observations, and actions taken.
- Remain composed and professional under stress, maintaining control during high-pressure or emergency situations.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be a U.S. Person as defined by 22 USC § 6010.
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
- Minimum of two (2) years of relevant, responsible experience in security, military, law enforcement, or similar roles.
- Ability to pass a comprehensive background check.
- No disqualifying criminal history—evaluated based on the severity and recency of offenses, relevance to the role, and other applicable factors.
- Must pass a drug screening, including testing for marijuana/THC per DOT regulations.
- Possession of a permanent Washington State Guard License is required.
- Ability to write detailed reports in English and pass a reading comprehension assessment.
- Ability to read, understand, and apply rules, policies, and training materials in English.
- Capable of recognizing and appropriately responding to potential threats or persons in crisis.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to de-escalate tense situations professionally.
- Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions and interacting with a diverse public.
- Must meet physical requirements of the role, including:
- Performing a physical fitness test (push-ups, squats, jumping jacks)
- Lifting up to 50 lbs
- Climbing and descending multiple flights of stairs quickly
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in high-traffic, fast-paced environments.
- Background in customer service, with strong conflict-resolution skills.
- Prior experience working in public transportation, emergency response, or similar community-facing roles.
