POSITION SUMMARY:

The System Server and Support Engineer is responsible for assisting in the planning, coordination, configuration, installation, and management of network servers within the department to meet given requirements.  Provides software support and implement servers, including infrastructure to support them. Has key responsibility for the identification and resolution of hardware and software technical problems and malfunctions related to network infrastructure and related all related servers. Assists in making decisions that are critical in the areas of throughput analysis, problem solving, and server infrastructure planning. Implements the necessary tools and processes to identify troublesome trends as they develop. Ensures a stable performance environment for systems. Participates in various IT projects intended to continually improve/upgrade the servers as well as the software and OS.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:

  • Experience in mission-critical enterprise server environments performing network engineering (hardware and software), and designing, planning, and implementing servers and infrastructure using the latest technology.

  • Thorough understanding of distributed systems architecture and comprehensive knowledge of multiple technical disciplines.

  • Excellent technical knowledge and aptitude in the areas of networks, network topologies, network file servers, applicable software, and troubleshooting techniques.

  • Ability to solve enterprise server issues and to manage the performance and capacity of a LAN/WAN environment.

  • Ability to effectively adapt to rapidly changing technology and apply it to business needs.

  • Understanding of the enterprise business and business processes; knowledge of business unit functions and cross-group dependencies/relationships.

  • Ability to anticipate user requirements and identify and resolve complex problems with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to assess internal and external communication practices, anticipate future network requirements, and research and analyze emerging technologies.

  • Build and configure Windows-based servers.

  • Support digital transformation efforts.

  • Configure backup and monitoring on all servers as needed.

  • Understanding the Microsoft security patch cycle and apply patches to servers as needed.

  • Support Microsoft Office 365.

  • Must be able to work independently with little to no daily supervision, is a team player and open to ideas and learning.

  • Be able to modify storage, memory and network settings as appropriate.

  • Server performance monitoring.

  • Work with users to troubleshoot issues with performance, access and other administrative tasks.

  • Able to communicate effectively across the organization.

  • Take part in Change Control process.

  • Take part in regular on-call rotation.

  • Create and Post Documentation.

  • 3rd Level end-user support.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline (or equivalent combination of formal education and experience).

EXPERIENCE:

  • At least four years of related experience in mission-critical enterprise server environments performing network engineering (hardware and software), and designing, planning, and implementing servers and infrastructure using the latest technology.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Thorough understanding of distributed systems architecture and comprehensive knowledge of multiple technical disciplines.

  • Excellent technical knowledge and aptitude in the areas of networks, network topologies, PC workstations (configuration and connectivity), network file servers, applicable software, and troubleshooting techniques.

  • Ability to solve enterprise server issues and to manage the performance and capacity.

  • Demonstrated experience in effectively managing small to large projects in a cross-functional environment.

  • Ability to effectively adapt to rapidly changing technology and apply it to business needs.

  • Understanding of the enterprise business and business processes; knowledge of business unit functions and cross-group dependencies/relationships.

  • Ability to anticipate user requirements and identify and resolve complex problems with minimal supervision; strong customer service and communications skills.

  • Good judgment and analytical skills; strong follow-up and organizational skills.

  • Ability to conduct and prepare feasibility studies; develop client proposals, including estimates for costs, time, and resources; prepare statistical reports; complete cost/benefit analyses; and conduct business.

  • Ability to assess internal and external communication practices, anticipate future network requirements, and research and analyze emerging technologies.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the following technical knowledge/skills are mandatory, including from among the following:

  • Hardware: Dell, and HP OS: Microsoft Windows 2k3 thru current, VMware Esxi Desktop:, Windows Desktop OS, Microsoft Office

  • Understanding of operating system concepts such as user and group ownership and file permissions, file system/volume group configuration, etc.

  • Knowledge of PowerShell.

  • Ability to create, understand, and follow processes to ensure successful execution of critical maintenance procedures.

  • Able to exercise independent judgment and take action.

  • Highly self-motivated and directed.

  • Excellent analytical, mathematical, and creative problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent listening, interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.

  • Logical and efficient, with keen attention to details.

  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks while under pressure.

  • Strong customer service orientation.

  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.

  • Strong knowledge of Windows Server 2012 and above.

  • Knowledge of VMWare Virtualization including VDI.

  • Knowledge of RightFax (desired).

  • Grey area troubleshooting skills.

Compensation Range:

$89,500.00- $130,000.00

This range offers an estimate based on the minimum job qualifications. However, our approach to determining base pay is comprehensive, and a broad range of factors is considered when making an offer. This includes education, experience, skills, and certifications/licensures as they directly relate to position requirements; as well as business/organizational needs, internal equity, and market-competitiveness.
