The Tax and Compliance Manager oversees tax compliance across entities, manages audits, partners with external advisors, and ensures adherence to regulations while supporting business growth and system integration.
As a Tax and Compliance Manager you can expect to…
- Serve as the internal lead for all federal, state, and local tax compliance matters, including income tax, sales and use tax, and other indirect taxes across a multi-entity, multi-state footprint
- Partner with external tax advisors to ensure timely and accurate preparation and filing of all required returns, while maintaining internal accountability for documentation and audit readiness
- Own and maintain a comprehensive tax compliance calendar, ensuring internal stakeholders are aligned on deadlines, deliverables, and regulatory obligations
- Track and document tax positions, nexus determinations, and exemption certificates, and ensure proper integration with ERP and tax automation systems
- Monitor evolving tax laws and regulations, assess their impact on HSO’s operations, and proactively recommend changes to internal processes or policies
- Lead internal responses to tax authority inquiries and audits in collaboration with external consultants, ensuring timely and accurate resolution
- Develop and maintain internal tax compliance policies and procedures that scale with HSO’s rapid growth and geographic expansion
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Finance, Legal, and Operations to ensure tax considerations are embedded in business decisions, system implementations, and strategic initiatives
- Support M&A due diligence, new service launches, and international expansion from a tax compliance perspective. Manage contract renewals, extensions, and terminations
- Propose and implement process-level improvement, staying current with best practices and industry trends

- Leading without ego by managing external advisors as true partners, knowing when to escalate or bring in expertise, and communicating in a timely, professional manner
- Driving measurable outcomes by holding yourself accountable to clear KPIs such as zero missed filings, clean audits, optimized tax positions, and reduced compliance incidents

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or MST preferred)
- 5+ years of experience in tax compliance or tax advisory, preferably in a multi-state, multi-entity environment
- Strong understanding of U.S. federal and state tax regulations, including sales and use tax
- Experience managing relationships with external consultants/advisors
- Excellent organizational, communication, and project management skills
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in contract management software and Microsoft Office Suite
