What's the role?

We are seeking a highly motivated and technically curious Technical Intern to join our Central Analytics team as part of the COO AI Program. This role sits at the intersection of data engineering, analytics, and artificial intelligence, supporting HERE’s enterprise transformation through AI-enabled data products and workflows.

As a Technical Intern, you will work closely with data engineers, analysts, and transformation leaders to design and build end-to-end data pipelines, curate datasets, and develop AI-driven solutions that enable intelligent decision-making across the organization. You will gain hands-on experience across the full data lifecycle from ingestion and transformation to AI-powered insights and workflow automation.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Build and maintain data pipelines to ingest, transform, and integrate structured and unstructured data from multiple sources
  • Develop curated datasets and data models that support analytics and AI use cases
  • Apply data engineering principles to clean, enrich, and validate datasets, including implementing basic data quality checks
  • Support the development of AI/GenAI prototypes, such as natural language query interfaces, insight generation, or retrieval-based solutions
  • Contribute to the design of agentic workflows that automate repeatable tasks and enhance business processes
  • Document data flows, metadata, and lineage to support transparency, governance, and reproducibility
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business problems and translate them into data and AI solutions
  • Assist in building dashboards, notebooks, or APIs to enable consumption of data products
  • Participate in project discussions and provide updates on progress, findings, and outcomes
  • Support the preparation of demo materials and final deliverables, including architecture diagrams and solution summaries
  • Other duties as assigned by the Central Analytics and COO AI Program teams
Who are you?
  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an interest in data and AI
  • Foundational knowledge of programming (e.g., Python, SQL)
  • Understanding of basic data concepts such as data pipelines, data modeling, or ETL/ELT processes is a plus
  • Interest or exposure to cloud platforms, analytics tools, or data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI) is a plus
  • Curiosity about AI/GenAI and how it can be applied to real-world business problems
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment
  • Attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality work

This is an excellent opportunity for a student looking to gain hands-on experience in data engineering and AI within a dynamic and growing organization. You will work on meaningful projects aligned to HERE’s enterprise transformation initiatives and gain exposure to cutting-edge technologies and real-world business applications.

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
