The Opportunity

We are seeking an AI-first Technical Product Owner to support the delivery of mission-critical mobile solutions for public safety and field operations. This role serves as the bridge between product strategy and engineering execution, with a strong focus on mobile-first experiences used in real-world environments.

The ideal candidate thrives in a modern, AI-driven SDLC, leveraging AI tools to accelerate backlog creation, improve specification clarity, and ensure high-quality, predictable delivery while maintaining accountability for real-world performance and usability.

Key Responsibilities:

Mobile-First Backlog Ownership

  • Own and prioritize backlog for mobile applications and field-based workflows
  • Translate product vision into clear, actionable user stories with well-defined acceptance criteria
  • Ensure a healthy backlog with 2–3 sprints of ready work
  • Incorporate GIS-enabled capabilities and integrations where applicable
  • Balance priorities across new features, customer commitments, and production stability

Field-Centric Execution

  • Lead sprint planning, backlog refinement, and execution for mobile-focused teams
  • Act as the voice of real-world field users (officers, responders, field personnel)
  • Handle edge cases including:
    • Offline usage
    • Sync conflicts
    • Connectivity variability
    • Device performance differences
  • Drive predictable delivery while supporting rapid response to production issues

Mobile Solution Focus

  • Define and refine requirements for:
    • Mobile applications (iOS, Android, web)
    • Offline-first workflows and sync strategies
    • API-driven integrations
  • Ensure solutions are performant, reliable, and scalable across real-world conditions
  • Partner with engineering on architecture, tradeoffs, and implementation approach

AI-Driven Product Execution

  • Leverage AI tools (e.g., Claude, Copilot) to:
    • Generate and refine user stories, acceptance criteria, and edge cases
    • Create test scenarios, UAT scripts, and validation checklists
    • Identify gaps and improve specification completeness
    • Analyze support trends to inform backlog prioritization
    • Accelerate documentation and release notes
  • Enable spec-driven development through highly structured, AI-ready requirements
  • Collaborate with teams leveraging AI for development, testing, and delivery acceleration

Quality & Delivery Ownership

  • Own UAT coordination and feature acceptance
  • Ensure features meet expectations in real-world field conditions, not just ideal scenarios
  • Validate:
    • Performance
    • Reliability
    • Data accuracy
  • Triage production issues and feed insights back into backlog prioritization

Cross-Team Collaboration

  • Partner with Product Managers to translate strategy into execution
  • Work closely with Engineering, QA, Support, and other teams on delivery alignment
  • Communicate progress, risks, and dependencies clearly to stakeholders

Requirements:

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience as a Product Owner, Business Analyst, or similar role
  • Strong background working with Agile/Scrum development teams
  • Experience with B2B SaaS or enterprise software strongly preferred; government sector a plus
  • Experience supporting mobile applications in real-world or high-reliability environments strongly preferred

Technical Skills & Competencies

  • Strong experience with mobile applications (iOS, Android, or responsive web) – required
  • Experience with offline-first design, sync strategies, and API-based systems
  • Familiarity with GIS, mapping, or geospatial systems is a strong plus
  • Experience with public safety, field service, or similar operational domains is preferred
  • Experience with Azure DevOps (ADO) or similar backlog tools
  • Ability to create wireframes, user flows, and functional specifications
  • Understanding of software testing methodologies and QA processes
  • Strong collaboration across engineering, QA, and product teams
  • High attention to detail, especially for edge cases and real-world usage
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, high-visibility delivery environment

And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
