Mob Entertainment is a startup multimedia studio that is best known for our hit indie horror game "Poppy Playtime".  This franchise is one of the hottest new properties in gaming, and our team is naturally expanding as our ambition expands.  To give a taste of our brand's popularity, more than 100 billion YouTube views of Poppy Playtime related content have occured since the game's launch 4 years ago.

Mob Entertainment games are known for their unique blend of environmental storytelling, player-driven exploration, and highly interactive world systems. We are committed to expanding the boundaries of gameplay systems that empower both designers and players, and we’ve assembled a cross-disciplinary team of passionate developers to help us push these ideas forward. We value collaboration, autonomy, and the ability to bridge creative and technical problem solving.

In this role, you will help architect, prototype, and implement core gameplay systems that power the moment-to-moment experience of our game—from player mechanics to world interactions, puzzles, and environmental systems. You'll work closely with engineers, designers, animators, and content teams to ensure that systems are scalable, maintainable, and empower other developers to build gameplay efficiently. This is a highly technical design role where systems thinking and implementation skills are both key.

We’re looking for self-driven Technical Systems Designers who thrive at the intersection of design and engineering—who can think deeply about player experience while also architecting systems that support the creative needs of the team at large.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, prototype, and implement core gameplay systems that interact cleanly with player abilities, world objects, AI, and mission scripting.
  • Translate high-level design goals into scalable system architectures that support systemic gameplay and iterative content development.
  • Implement gameplay logic using Unreal Engine’s Blueprint system, Gameplay Ability System (GAS), and other relevant tools.
  • Build designer-friendly reusable system templates that enable rapid content creation across levels and features.
  • Create documentation and technical specs to clearly communicate systems to cross-discipline teams.
  • Identify edge cases, scalability concerns, and performance bottlenecks early in the development process.

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of experience as a Technical Designer, Gameplay Programmer, or Gameplay Designer on shipped or in-production titles.
  • Strong experience with Unreal Engine 5, with a focus on Blueprint scripting, system design, and implementation.
  • Proficient in C++ for gameplay systems and tool development.
  • Familiarity with Unreal’s Gameplay Ability System (GAS) or comparable data-driven ability frameworks.
  • Experience working with Unreal Engine subsystems, including Sequencer and other core engine systems.
  • Solid understanding of systemic gameplay design, including interaction systems, ability frameworks, world object behaviors, and progression structures.
  • Strong communication skills with proven cross-discipline collaboration experience.
  • Ability to clearly document systems, workflows, and pipelines for team-wide usage.
  • Strong debugging, problem-solving, and optimization skills across both logic and content workflows.
  • Comfortable with rapid prototyping and iterative development.

Bonus Skills:

  • Experience developing first-person horror, puzzle, or narrative-driven games.
  • Knowledge of network replication and multiplayer systems in Unreal Engine.
  • Understanding of narrative design principles and conveying emotion through gameplay mechanics.
  • Experience contributing to the design and implementation of:
    • AI, Behavior, State Tree
    • Character animations pipelines and implementation
    • Player character abilities and progression systems
    • Enemy & boss design
