We’re looking for a deeply technical contract writer to join our fast-paced team and help us draft high-accuracy contracts and documentation. This is not a marketing or editorial writing position—this is technical contract writing for complex engineering and AI systems. You will collaborate directly with product managers and engineers to distill specifications into clear, concise, and legally sound documentation suitable for client-facing agreements and internal processes.

This role is ideal for someone with experience translating deeply technical concepts into formal, structured documents like Statements of Work (SOWs), Master Service Agreements (MSAs), and technical specs—particularly in sectors like AI, robotics, infrastructure, or embedded systems.

Scope and Duration
  • 10hrs/week for 6 months.
Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with engineering and product stakeholders to understand deliverables, technical scope, and business objectives.
  • Draft and revise highly technical contracts (e.g., for clients in infrastructure sectors like wastewater, electrical utilities, or asset monitoring).
  • Translate real-time, cloud, and edge AI specifications into language suitable for legal review and client execution.
  • Ensure technical clarity and compliance with internal documentation and legal standards.
  • Create and maintain documentation around “digital twin” systems, IoT hardware, AI deployments, and related infrastructure components.
  • Work quickly and iteratively—being responsive to fast-changing requirements and tight timelines.
Qualifications

Required:

  • 5+ years of experience as a technical writer, preferably with a strong background in infrastructure, robotics, AI, or IoT.
  • Demonstrated experience drafting technical contracts, SOWs, MSAs, and system documentation.
  • Strong understanding of:
    • AI systems (particularly in infrastructure or industrial applications)
    • Embedded hardware and firmware
    • Cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure)
    • Edge computing and data systems
    • Mobile-integrated technology ecosystems
  • Ability to shadow engineers or product owners and work independently to deliver drafts.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, time management, and communication skills.

Preferred:

  • Background or certification in engineering or systems architecture.
  • Prior work with “digital twin” technology or sensor-based infrastructure systems.
  • Experience collaborating with legal counsel on contract-ready documents.
  • Based in the Bay Area or open to periodic collaboration with a Bay Area-based team.

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
