Job Description

The Opportunity

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University-Worldwide, College of Aviation, School of Engineering, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in the mechanical engineering field. This is a fully remote, full-time, online, 10-month position based in the U.S., with no relocation required. However, travel will be necessary at least twice a year to attend commencement ceremonies, mandatory college meetings, and other relevant events. The position begins on August 1, 2026.

As a tenure-track academic appointment, this position includes teaching, scholarship, and university service as the principal responsibilities. Classes will be taught online. The successful candidate will teach in various school programs, tailored to their qualifications. This role includes developing courses that enrich both undergraduate and graduate programs, as well as mentoring students. We seek passionate teachers. Faculty members benefit from professional development support and should be eager to deliver high-quality online courses. The Rothwell Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence supports our global campus.

Candidates should have a background in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering.

Successful applicants are expected to maintain a robust research profile for the tenure-track position. Preferred areas of expertise include machine design, robotics, cloud-based engineering, and industry-informed capstone project design and leadership. However, applicants in all areas will be considered.

About the School of Engineering

The School of Engineering is part of the College of Aviation at the ERAU-WW campus. It offers a variety of programs, including an A.S. in Engineering Fundamentals, a B.S. in Engineering, a B.S. in Engineering Technology, B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, and a B.S. in Software Engineering. The B.S. in Software Engineering and the B.S. in Mechanical Engineering were launched in August 2024 and January 2026, respectively, while the other programs are ABET-accredited. Additionally, the school offers an M.S. degree in Aerospace Engineering, Airworthiness Engineering, and Systems Engineering. We also offer certificates in Engineering Fundamentals, Airworthiness Engineering, and Systems Engineering. We have also recently started Engineering certificate programs with Airbus and Northrop Grumman. A partnership was recently established with the US Naval Community College, offering an A.S. in Engineering Fundamentals. All engineering programs are 100% online and asynchronous.

The demographics of our working professional student body are as follows: 49% are active military personnel, 19% are veterans, and 32% are civilians, all located worldwide. For the academic year 2024-25, undergraduate enrollment is 1,512, while graduate enrollment is 687. Our faculty comprises 14 full-time members and over 65 adjunct instructors.

According to U.S. News and World Report, our program is tied for No. 12 in Best Online Master’s in Engineering Programs and ranks No. 7 in Best Online Master’s in Engineering Programs for Veterans. U.S. News recognizes ERAU as the Best Online Master’s program in Engineering, focusing on Aerospace/Aeronautical/Astronautical studies. Furthermore, ERAU was tied for No. 12 overall for Best Online Bachelor’s Programs and No. 5 among the Best Online Bachelor’s Degree Programs for Veterans.

Our full-time faculty are active scholars in their fields and collaborate extensively within the college and with external partners. Qualifications

Required Education and Qualifications:

• PhD in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a closely related engineering or science discipline.

• Ability to teach existing courses related to the candidate’s discipline.

• A strong publication record and the potential to succeed in securing research funding and mentoring students.

• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Areas of expertise include machine design, robotics, cloud-based engineering, and industry-informed capstone project design and leadership.

• College-level teaching experience.

• Teaching experience in an online environment.

• Evidence of research experience in educational pedagogy.

• Experience with active military and veterans.

• Past work experience in a national research lab and/or industry.

• Experience with ABET.

• Experience or training in student mentoring.

• Record of interdisciplinary collaboration.
