The Role

Epic is looking for a mid-level Visual Designer with a strong foundation in responsive website design and a sharp eye for visual storytelling. This role blends craft and strategy—you’ll design engaging, conversion-focused digital experiences that bring our brand to life across web and product surfaces.

You’ll collaborate closely with creative, copy, marketing, and engineering partners to translate business goals and user needs into thoughtful, scalable design systems and storytelling moments. From campaign landing pages to in-product banners, your work will help families and educators connect with the magic of reading.

Key Responsibilities

• Translate wireframes and strategic briefs into polished, user-centered design solutions
• Ensure layouts are optimized for usability, accessibility, and performance across breakpoints
• Develop compelling visual narratives that communicate Epic’s value proposition clearly and emotionally
• Partner with copywriters to align typography, imagery, illustration, and motion with messaging strategy
• Design feature banners and promotional assets that feel cohesive with the broader brand experience
• Work closely with the Creative Director to evolve and maintain visual consistency across digital touchpoints
• Collaborate with PMs and engineers to ensure design accuracy and high-quality implementation
• Participate in brainstorms, design critiques, campaign development and iterative testing
• Clearly communicate design rationale and user-centered thinking to stakeholders

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience designing responsive websites and/or apps from concept through production
• Deep understanding of responsive design systems, layout principles, typography, and accessibility best practices
• Strong portfolio demonstrating both polished UI craft and strategic visual storytelling
• Expert proficiency in Figma, Photoshop and Illustrator
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Strong communication skills and comfort articulating design decisions
• High attention to detail and commitment to quality
• Bonus: Basic knowledge of HTML/CSS and how designs translate to development

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
