Position Overview

The Technology Portfolio Director serves as the primary point of contact between the enterprise technology function and the assigned Zelis Business Unit(s). This highly visible role is responsible for building and maintaining relationships with key business and technology leaders in the assigned business unit(s). The Portfolio Director will manage partner requests and associated tech-enabled work plans from intake through delivery. Additionally, this role will be responsible for coordinating plans and deliverables with the Agile Delivery Team, PMO, Product Management, and engineering teams. Tracking of risks and clearing of impediments on behalf of partner businesses is required, as is the regular communication of portfolio updates to stakeholders and partner business leaders. This role requires an individual with excellent interpersonal communication skills, a proactive growth-minded work ethic, and demonstrated success managing and delivering highly complex technology-enabled business solutions to senior level executives.

What You’ll Do

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage steadfast relationships with leaders at various levels of the assigned BU.

  • Act as a trusted advisor and liaison between the BU and enterprise technology, fostering a collaborative environment where BU stakeholders feel heard and valued.

  • Serve as a central point of contact, fostering seamless communication and collaboration between the BU and enterprise technology.

  • Prioritize active listening and open communication to fully understand BU strategies, processes, and challenges.

  • Proactively identify and address potential communication breakdowns or conflicts.

  • Understand BU strategic objectives and roadmaps and ensure cross-functional commitment and enterprise technology roadmap alignment.

  • Facilitate productive meetings and workshops with BU and enterprise technology stakeholders to gather requirements, resolve issues, and drive alignment.

  • Establish and lead recurring portfolio update presentations with key BU partners. Highlighting progress and addressing potential risks.

  • Contribute to the development of BU business case documentation and plans for major initiatives as needed for enterprise technology-enabling functions.

  • Build and manage a meaningful, portfolio-level view of all enterprise technology-enabled programs on the assigned BU roadmap, from intake through delivery.

  • Identify ways to logically combine initiatives to create more value / reduce separate efforts, where possible.

  • Identify risks, develop mitigation plans, and communicate effectively to stakeholders and leadership.

  • Create clear problem definition, scope, and requirements documentation in Jira/Confluence.

  • Build and manage detailed plans in Jira for BU-specific programs which are enterprise technology-enabled.

  • Keeps track of outstanding tasks and ensures their completion through relentless pursuit.

  • Maintains timely, objective transparency into the health of enterprise technology roadmap commitments.

  • Provide feedback to enterprise technology teams based on BU stakeholder feedback and performance data.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What You’ll Bring to Zelis

Professional Experience/Qualifications

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in IT project management, with demonstrated ability to deliver complex technology initiatives from concept to go-live.

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience serving in a highly visible technology product or project-focused role responsible for being the single point-of-contact to business executives.

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience with Agile methodologies.

  • Proven experience developing budgets, roadmaps, and program plans for cross-functional technology initiatives.

  • Experience in escalating risks to senior leadership and gaining consensus around mitigation plans.

  • 5+ years of experience managing projects using Jira.

  • PMP, PgMP, and/or PfMP certification strongly preferred.

  • SAFe/Agile/Scrum certifications are a plus.

  • Healthcare technology organization experience is a plus.

  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to lead without authority and rally teammates around agreed goals.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required; MBA or master’s degree preferred

Work Environment:

  • Can work remotely; travel requirements to (primarily) domestic destinations 10 – 20%

  • A standard work week exists but with the understanding that additional time/effort outside of the usual parameters can/will occur based upon the overall needs, where deadlines exist and when necessary. 

  • A standard business environment exists with moderate noise levels.

  • Ability to lift and move approximately thirty (30) pounds on a non-routine basis.

  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time. 

Location and Workplace Flexibility

We have offices in Atlanta GA, Boston MA, Morristown NJ, Plano TX, St. Louis MO, St. Petersburg FL, and Hyderabad, India.
