About the Role

We are seeking a highly driven and strategic Accounting Manager to join our Global Corporate Accounting team. This role is ideal for a fast learner who thrives in dynamic environments, embraces change, and is passionate about building scalable, high-quality accounting processes.

As an Accounting Manager, you will be a key contributor to the company’s financial statements, internal controls, and cross-functional collaboration. You will oversee key accounting functions, strengthen compliance frameworks, support audit readiness, and drive continuous process improvement, including the adoption of AI and automation tools to modernize how we work. This is a high-impact role with visibility across finance and business teams.

This role can be based in Seattle, WA or Arlington, VA and will require 3+ days in office.

You Will

Close Management

  • Lead and review critical components of the month-end and quarter-end close process, including journal entries, reconciliations, variance analysis, and trend reviews, ensuring accuracy and compliance with tight deadlines.

  • Manage and be accountable for a full-cycle, multi-entity close across Remitly's global entities

  • Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting documentation to support quarterly and annual SEC filings, including 10-Q and 10-K support, and SOX compliance requirements.

  • Review and be accountable for monthly and quarterly flux analyses on key accounts, providing clear explanations of variances to finance leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.

  • Review balance sheet reconciliations, identifying and resolving variances in a timely manner.

  • Have a strong understanding of core accounting concepts including accrual basis accounting, matching principle, and period-end cutoff.

  • Analyze financial data and system outputs to identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities.

  • Conduct accounting research and drafting technical documentation working closely with internal stakeholders to determine the impact of new accounting standards and the accounting implications of changes in the business

  • Monitor and maintain the control framework around accounting processes to drive continuous strengthening of the company’s control environment to support Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with FP&A, Tax, Legal, and business partners to ensure accurate accounting treatment for accruals, new products, and strategic initiatives.

  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff, fostering a collaborative, accountable, and growth-oriented environment.

  • Drive key initiatives and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting while maintaining strong attention to detail.

  • Lead and contribute to projects that improve operational excellence within the Accounting organization.

Process Improvement, AI & Automation

  • Identify process improvement and automation opportunities to drive positive change across the organization, leveraging AI tools, scripting, and modern tooling to reduce manual effort and improve accuracy and scalability.

  • Responsibly use generative AI tools and copilots in daily workflows, continuously learning as tools evolve and applying human-in-the-loop practices to deliver business-ready outputs and drive measurable improvements in efficiency, cost, and quality.

  • Champion the adoption of AI-assisted workflows within the accounting team, evaluating, piloting, and embedding tools that meaningfully reduce toil and unlock higher-value work.

  • Analyze current accounting workflows and lead initiatives to simplify, standardize, and scale processes, with a bias toward eliminating recurring manual tasks.

  • Lead or participate in cross-functional projects related to ERP optimization, system implementations, accounting policy changes, or new business initiatives, enhancing partnerships between Accounting and various business and IT groups.

  • Build scalable processes that reduce manual intervention and eliminate operational dependencies.

You Have

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field with 6+ years of progressive accounting experience.

  • Public accounting and/or audit background.

  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP, SEC financial reporting standards, and SOX 404 compliance requirements

  • A forward-thinking approach to technology, with demonstrated experience implementing automation or AI tools to improve accounting workflows.

  • Experience working with large data sets and proficiency in Excel.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proven time management skills and experience leading projects related to process improvements or new initiatives with ability to multitask and adapt to evolving business requirements.

  • Strong project management and organizational skills, including experience designing and implementing accounting policies and procedures.

  • A proactive, problem-solving mindset with an interest in building scalable processes and improving data quality.

  • Familiarity with AI productivity tools, RPA platforms, or scripting languages (Python, etc.) applied to accounting or finance workflows.

Preferred

  • CPA or equivalent certification.

  • Experience working with NetSuite or other ERP systems.

  • Experience in fintech, high-growth, or public company environments.

  • Experience managing or mentoring team members.

Compensation Details. The starting base salary range for this position is typically $104,000-$130,000. In the U.S., Remitly employees are shareholders in our Company and equity is part of our total compensation plan.
