Arboreal Management | Seattle, WA | Full-Time

About Us

Arboreal Management is a rapidly growing mission-driven property management company overseeing 10,000 apartments. We close the books on 160 entities with 600 banks accounts every month.

We're rethinking how accounting gets done by combining AI agents, automation, and our proprietary software platform, Maynard.

We've already automated significant portions of our accounting operations, including utility billing, bank reconciliations, and cash management, allowing us to dramatically reduce manual work and operate with a much smaller team.

We're now looking for an AI-native accountant to take ownership of these efforts and help us build a fundamentally more efficient accounting operation.

The Role

This is a hands-on position at the intersection of accounting, software, and artificial intelligence.

You'll use AI coding agents such as Claude Code and Codex, along with our internal software and APIs, to develop, operate, and continuously improve automated accounting workflows.

You'll work directly with company leadership (CEO, CFO) and our software engineering team, with support from a talented offshore accounting team responsible for client communication and exception handling.

Your goal is simple: build the best accounting platform in the real estate industry by automating as much routine accounting work as possible.

Responsibilities
  • Design, build, and operate AI-powered workflows for bank reconciliations, utility billing, cash management, month-end close, and financial reporting.

  • Use AI coding agents and our proprietary Maynard platform to automate complex, multistep accounting processes.

  • Monitor automated workflows, investigate exceptions, and ensure accurate, timely results.

  • Identify opportunities to eliminate manual work and continuously improve accounting processes.

  • Collaborate with our engineering team to expand system capabilities and integrations.

  • Develop repeatable processes and help our Philippines-based accounting team effectively use AI tools.

Qualifications
  • Strong foundation in accounting, including reconciliations, accruals, journal entries, and financial statements.

  • Demonstrated enthusiasm for AI tools, particularly coding agents such as Claude Code, Codex, or similar platforms.

  • Technical curiosity and a willingness to learn new tools, work with APIs, and build automations.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to independently investigate complex accounting issues.

  • A self-directed, entrepreneurial mindset and a preference for building better systems rather than repeating manual processes.

  • Ability to take ownership of workflows from initial development through ongoing operation.

Preferred, but not required:

  • 2–5 years of accounting or finance experience.

  • Experience with Python, SQL, APIs, or workflow automation.

  • Property management or real estate accounting experience, or other heavily multi-entity settings

  • Experience building custom software or automations using AI coding agents.

A CPA or computer science degree is not required. We're more interested in what you can do than your credentials.

Why Join Arboreal?
  • Support our mission. We focus almost exclusively on affordable homes serving low income renters in need of high quality housing.

  • Build something new. Help create an AI-first accounting operation rather than simply maintaining existing processes.

  • Work with cutting-edge tools. You'll have access to modern AI coding agents, proprietary software, and extensive accounting and banking integrations.

  • Make a measurable impact. Your work will directly improve operations across thousands of apartments and hundreds of bank accounts.

  • Own your work. You'll have substantial autonomy, direct access to leadership, and the opportunity to turn your ideas into production systems.

We're looking for someone who understands accounting but gets genuinely excited about using AI to make traditional accounting processes obsolete.

If you've been experimenting with AI tools and wondering why your accounting department isn't doing things differently, we'd love to hear from you.

To apply: Please submit your resume and a brief description of something you've built or automated using AI. Personal projects are welcome.

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
