Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) Mobility, Surveillance & Bombers (MS&B) division is seeking a results-driven Airplane Systems Senior Engineering Manager with strong technical capability to lead the Aerial Refueling Systems team on the KC-46A Program in Everett, WA.
The KC-46A Pegasus is an FAA-certified military derivative of the Boeing 767 commercial platform, modified to U.S. Air Force specifications for the primary mission of aerial refueling. As the program advances through production, sustainment, and ongoing development efforts, the engineering organization plays a central role in ensuring aircraft safety, product quality, customer satisfaction, and timely resolution of complex technical issues. Success in this environment requires strong technical leadership, disciplined execution, and the ability to integrate across multiple engineering and program functions.
As the senior manager, you will provide leadership and technical oversight for the Aerial Refueling Boom Systems, Drogue Systems, Aerial Refueling Operator Station Systems, and Aerial Refueling Integration team. In this role, you will guide technical teams through complex development, production, and fleet sustainment challenges while ensuring alignment with program priorities, customer expectations, and enterprise standards. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong engineering judgment, project management, have experience developing and mentoring technical teams, and a proven track record of delivering results in a highly regulated, customer-facing environment.
Position Responsibilities:
  • Provide leadership and direction to employees and first-level managers in support of KC-46A program execution, including development, production, sustainment, and fleet issue resolution.
  • Provide oversight and approval of technical approaches, products, and processes.
  • Lead the team through program planning and project management of major development and sustainment efforts in accordance with organizational processes and procedures.
  • Guide resolution of complex technical issues through sound engineering judgment, disciplined problem solving, and effective risk mitigation.
  • Build, develop, and mentor the engineering team through coaching, talent development, and workforce planning.
  • Ensure engineering activities and deliverables meet safety, quality, regulatory, and certification requirements.
  • Communicate technical status, risks, issues, and mitigation plans to program leadership, customers, and other key stakeholders.
  • Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes, technical rigor, and cross-functional collaboration in support of the Airplane Systems Capability to improve program outcomes.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement.
  • 10+ years of experience working with aircraft systems.
  • 5+ years of experience providing technical leadership to cross-functional engineering projects.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • Experience managing a team's schedule and financial performance (e.g. CAM, EVM).
  • Experience managing staffing allocations and prioritizing statement-of-work requirements.
  • Experience in military aircraft systems, aerial refueling systems, or mission systems.
  • Experience leading first-level managers.
  • Experience with certification, compliance, and military standards.
  • Experience communicating technical information to leadership, customers, and cross-functional partners.
  • Experience mentoring and developing technical teams.
  • Experience leading cross-functional collaboration across engineering, program, manufacturing, and quality organizations.
  • Experience in model-based systems engineering.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance, if required.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
Summary pay range: $212,500 - $287,500
