Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS) P-8 Poseidon program is currently seeking a Software Engineer - Developer to join the P8 Mission Systems Trainers software team located in Kent, WA. The P-8 Trainers Software Team develops software which implements training objectives and incorporates the P8 Tactical Open Mission System (TOMS) into multiple contracted training products. The selected applicant will be a member of a high performing, collaborative team, and a self-starter who has background in P-8 training device development and integration is preferred.
This software team member will work with a multifaceted software engineering team to design, develop, and deploy software that consists of real time simulation of mission system devices and support tools. The selected engineer will support all phases of the software development lifecycle to implement real-time embedded software applications simulating mission equipment including navigation, communications, sensors, weapons and more. This engineer must also provide integration support for P-8 Mission System assets deployed in training system environments. The position prefers experience with the Agile process and lifecycle management tools.

Position Responsibilities
- Supports the design, development, test, and maintenance of non-embedded software throughout the end-to-end lifecycle that meets industry, customer, safety, and regulation standards
- Assists with review, analysis and translation of customer requirements into initial design of software products
- Supports development, maintenance, enhancement and optimization of software products and functionalities for systems integrations
- Supports development, documentation and maintenance of architecture, requirements, algorithms, interfaces and designs for software products
- Supports debugging and resolution of issues identified to ensure the reliability and efficiency of software products
- Participates in handling user inquiries, troubleshooting technical issues and user feedback analysis
- Supports development, establishment, monitoring and improvement of software processes, tools and key performance metrics that align projects with organizational goals and industry benchmarks
- Supports execution and documentation of software research and development project.
- Assists with performing software project management activities and software supplier management functions
- Supports tracking and evaluation of software team and supplier performance to ensure product and process compliance to project plans and industry standards
- Supports implementation of current and emerging technologies, tools, frameworks and changes in regulations relevant to software development
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):
- Bachelor's Degree
- 2 years of experience in Proficient in Java. Familiar with C++.
- 2 years of experience in Linux development.
- 2 years of experience in General networking knowledge. Software integration experience.
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
- Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science and 2+ years of related work experience OR Bachelor's Degree and 6+ years of directly related work experience OR 10+ years of related, relevant experience
- 2 years of experience in Eclipse development
- Knowledge of specification format requirements, guidelines, and change control processes. Understanding of relationship between specifications/standards and aircraft/product certification systems.
- Knowledge of host environments, including processors, operating systems and networks. Ability to build, integrate and troubleshoot software components.
- Knowledge of software programming languages and databases and the ability to apply to the software domain. Programming languages encompass higher order languages, auto-coded languages and assembly languages.
- Knowledge of how to derive and allocate requirements (e.g., system, sub-system, software) and show traceability throughout the product lifecycle.
- Knowledge of software architecture and design methodologies. Ability to synthesize software architectures and designs that meet requirements, characteristics and constraints.
- Knowledge of software development processes in compliance with established internal and industry standards, guidelines, and best practices in the development, testing, and deployment of software.
- Knowledge of general and software development and testing tools, capability and usage. Examples include compilers, linkers, debuggers, data analysis tools, graphical user interface builders, post processing tools, requirements management tools, and web authoring tools.
- Knowledge of domains, characteristics, constraints and products that require software and influence architecture, requirements, interfaces, designs, and integration/test approaches.
