About Tin Can

Tin Can is building a safer, simpler way for kids to connect—without smartphones. We're creating delightful devices and services that let families call the people who matter most, free from the noise of today's digital world. It’s about unblocking connection and building confidence and independence.

We're building a bold, authentic, and kinda quirky brand that resonates with folks who want something simpler + better for their kids than the tech-infused lives we're currently living (and who have a sense of humor about it).

The Role

We’re looking for a Brand Designer who loves making things, with a passion and excitement for motion.

You’ll be a key creative partner cross-departmentally, helping bring Tin Can’s ideas to life across every place our brand shows up. From social posts and email to community resources, external presentations, referral program content, app and everything in between, you’ll turn creative direction into thoughtful, polished, unmistakably Tin Can design.

You’ll take established brand direction and run with it: taking a brief, figuring out what it needs, designing the thing, refining the details, and getting it out the door. You’ll have a strong eye, a good instinct for what feels fresh, and the ability to move quickly without sacrificing the work.

What You’ll Do
  • Bring creative concepts and campaigns to life across social, web, email, packaging, retail, events, and other brand touchpoints

  • Act as a right hand to the Design Director, helping translate creative direction into strong visual executions

  • Partner closely with our media and social leads to develop scroll-stopping social content, from individual posts to larger social moments and campaigns

  • Take creative briefs and turn them into thoughtful, polished design solutions

  • Design everything from big visual moments to the tiny details that make a piece of work feel special

  • Adapt and extend creative across formats, platforms, and channels while keeping the work cohesive

  • Help evolve and maintain Tin Can’s visual language through the day-to-day work

  • Collaborate with copywriters, marketers, social, product, and other teams to make ideas better and bring them over the finish line

  • Work with photographers, illustrators, animators, production partners, and other creatives as needed

  • Build templates, toolkits, and systems that help the team create great work efficiently

  • Manage multiple projects and deadlines while keeping quality high

  • Be an active participant in critiques, brainstorms, and creative reviews

You’re Great At
  • Making. You genuinely like getting into the work and making things look good.

  • Visual problem-solving. You know how to make a brief stronger through design and take a creative idea and figure out how to make it work across different formats and channels, not just decorate it.

  • The details. Typography, composition, hierarchy, spacing, image selection, color, and all the little things that separate “fine” from “heck yes.”

  • Moving quickly. You can work within a bit of ambiguity in a fast-moving environment, prioritize, and keep projects moving without needing everything perfectly figured out upfront.

  • Collaboration. You’re comfortable working closely with creative leads and channel owners, taking direction, contributing ideas, and making the work better together.

  • Brand consistency. You understand how to work within an established visual identity while still finding ways to keep it feeling fresh.

What We're Looking For
  • 3–5+ years of experience in brand design, graphic design, or a similar creative role

  • A portfolio that shows excellent visual design and strong execution across multiple channels

  • Strong typography, layout, composition instincts with a passion for motion graphics

  • Experience designing for social and digital platforms

  • Comfort working within an existing brand system and extending it into new applications

  • Strong Figma and Adobe Creative Suite skills

  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills

  • A collaborative, low-ego approach to creative work

  • A genuine interest in brands, culture, design, and making things people want to look at

Bonus Points
  • Motion or animation skills

  • Photography or art direction experience

  • Experience with packaging or physical brand experiences

  • Experience working at a startup, agency, or other fast-moving creative environment

  • An instinct for the weird, clever, colorful, and unexpected

Why Join Tin Can
  • We're building tech that protects childhood: We're on a quest to give kids a more analog childhood — one with real conversations, real connection, and way less screen time. This is a rare opportunity to build something that truly matters.

  • Build something from (almost) nothing: most lifecycle roles ask you to optimize an existing program. This one is yours to shape from the ground up, with the freedom to define what good looks like and real ownership over the results.

  • A seat with real reach: your work touches nearly every part of the customer journey - giving you outsized influence over retention and revenue, not just one narrow slice of it.

  • Small, high-trust team: Every company says "team," but at Tin Can it means something different. We're a small, mission-driven group that genuinely has each other's backs — professionally and personally. Your ideas and instincts matter from day one.

If you're excited by the idea of shaping how thousands of families experience something simpler and better for their kids, please reach out. We can't wait to meet someone who's ready to jump in, set the bar, and help us grow.

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
