About the Role

A fast-moving, high-impact policy communications team is looking for a Communications Associate to serve as the organizational engine behind its work. This is a small but mighty team that runs communications for the company's most important public policy moments across the United States, both proactive and reactive. The team is entering an exciting new phase, working more closely than ever with the broader communications ecosystem, including editorial, consumer, influencer, and social teams. That means this role sits at the center of a lot of coordination, and it needs someone who brings urgency, common sense, and a hyper-organized approach to everything they touch.

This is a genuine 50/50 role. Roughly half of your time will be spent coordinating people, calendars, and projects, and the other half will be spent writing and taking first passes at communications plans and materials. You will act as a pseudo internal chief of staff for the team while also getting your hands dirty on real campaign work. If you like to run a tight ship, over-communicate, and have an appetite to keep growing into bigger projects, you will thrive here.

What You'll Do
  • Coordinate across communications teams to track the big moments your team is planning and fold them into the broader communications calendar
  • Organize media coverage and help build the team's weekly reports
  • Take the first pass at building communications plans, documents, briefs, and other written materials for the team lead to review
  • Lead special projects and larger multi-region campaigns that reach beyond any single region
  • Act as a thought partner to regional communications managers on their biggest campaigns
  • Communicate laterally and upward to make sure every team knows what is happening and nothing falls through the cracks
Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree
  • A few years of communications experience, either in-house or at an agency that works across disciplines
  • Strong writing skills, with the ability to take a rough idea and turn it into a clear first draft on your own
  • A process-oriented mindset and exceptional organizational skills, with a track record of running complex projects and keeping many moving pieces on track
  • Confidence communicating across departments and up to senior stakeholders
  • Strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to stay calm and level-headed in high-pressure, fast-changing situations
  • A growth mindset and the drive to take on more over time rather than simply reacting to requests
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in or exposure to the political or public policy world, though it is not required
  • Comfort working with press and reporters
  • Prior experience partnering with influencer, consumer, editorial, or social teams
  • Background at a large-scale or global consumer company
  • For candidates coming from an agency, the type of accounts you have supported matters more than the size of the agency
  • Candidates with more experience than the minimum are welcome to apply
Key Details
  • Start Date: September 2026

  • Contract Duration: 12 month contract, with possibility of extension

  • Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week

  • Location: Full-time, approximately 40 hours per week, aligned to Pacific Time. You should be comfortable collaborating with teammates across U.S. time zones, including East Coast hours

  • Compensation: $45-$55 per hour (W2)

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
