T-Mobile has an exciting opportunity for an attorney with exceptional analytical and communication skills and a talent for creative problem-solving to provide legal guidance to our dynamic business teams. A successful candidate will be ready to jump into action, working closely with experts across the legal department and business partners to provide practical, strategic legal guidance and design and implement creative, simple solutions to address complex legal and technological challenges.
At T-Mobile, our lawyers are more than legal advisors. We are trusted partners, collaborators, innovators, and business leaders. We care deeply about our customers and our teams, and we work every day to help solve real, complex problems. We are looking for someone who goes beyond what is asked; who anticipates issues before they arise; who is driven by delivering the right outcome, not just the fastest one; who builds strong relationships across teams; and who brings a lifelong learners mindset and genuine intellectual curiosity to everything they do.

What you’ll do in your role.

  • Serve as primary privacy counsel to the Marketing organization, partnering closely with the marketing, product, and business teams and joining their planning and design reviews early, so privacy issues get spotted while a campaign or product is still taking shape.
  • Serve as the company’s subject-matter expert on outbound communications and the TCPA, including guidance on campaign design and the correct operation of the company’s “Do Not Contact” controls.
  • Apply fast-changing privacy laws to specific marketing campaigns, products, and data uses, often where the law is new and the guidance is limited.
  • Provide practical, strategic, and privileged legal advice, using sound judgment to guide the business through areas where the law is new or unsettled.
  • Build strong, trusted relationships across Marketing and the wider business so Legal is brought in early, when risks are easiest to manage.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate related privacy provisions and materials as needed, and partner with outside counsel where appropriate.
  • Review potential legislation and regulation for impact and provide subject-matter expertise to T-Mobile’s Government Affairs team.
  • Use AI and other tools to work efficiently and help advance department initiatives and process improvements.
  • Take on other department and team initiatives as assigned.

The experience you’ll bring.

  • U.S. law degree (JD) from an accredited university with outstanding academic credentials.
  • Current bar membership (in good standing) in at least one U.S. state; eligibility for admission to the state bar applicable to the office location.
  • 3+ years of experience as an in-house, top law firm, or government attorney, with relevant privacy experience.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and executive presence.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and advise on highly complex, high-impact matters and to navigate ambiguity.
  • Strong business judgment and legal acumen, with a pragmatic, solutions-oriented approach.
  • Ability to operate independently and effectively in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment and to balance multiple priorities.
  • Comfort using AI tools in everyday practice, and a strong aptitude and enthusiasm for learning new technology.
  • Desire and ability to work collaboratively as part of a cross-functional team.
  • Drive to solve customer pain points and Love Our Customers.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience advising on U.S. state and federal privacy laws, particularly in a marketing or advertising context.
  • Subject-matter depth in outbound communications (TCPA, CAN-SPAM, etc.)
  • Familiarity with AdTech, marketing technology, consent management, and “Do Not Contact” frameworks.
  • Experience at a technology, wireless, or consumer brand, or in a law firm supporting similar clients.

Essential Personal Attributes

  • You are proactive, action-oriented, and energized by solving problems.
  • You hold yourself to a high standard and consistently strive for excellent outcomes.
  • You are deeply invested in the success of your clients, colleagues, and the company.
  • You remain professional, thoughtful, and composed under pressure.
  • You are curious, analytical, and enjoy tackling complex issues.
  • You bring sound judgment, common sense, and a sense of humor to your work.
  • You take ownership of your work and pride in delivering high-quality results.

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
